I'm on a Fitness Regtime at the moment and haven't ridden a bike for about 5 years.

I know this is nowhere in the same league as some of the bikes on here but wanted to show off my new ride bought today.

    It's a 2015 Trex 7.4 FX.

A good mate of mine has started making his own bikes. I've been loaned one for a while and since it's arrived, I've not used my Cannondale or Cube at all. It's called the Stanforth Kibo and oddly it seemingly has huge appeal. Causes plenty of positive comment.

I skipped carbon and went straight from a low end alloy to titanium. It's lightweight/fast, incredibly strong, looks amazing and so smooth its like riding on a carpet. Carbon is nice too but I felt the pull of titanium more strongly!

    Who did your wheels?

  7. #7
Having tried a few I settled on finish line pro-road, tend to not over-apply and just a dab on each roller done carefully while running the chain backwards and starting at the join pin.
Seems to last well and not get noisy even when it looks like it needs a top-up.

I might try the Wiggle own brand lifeline wet lube that seems to get good reviews.

They are just factory wheels. American Classic Sprint 350. Nice enough, very light (ran out of funds for anything better!).

Yep! I like the very light weight of the American Classics but they are known to be a bit flexi.

Thanks for all the (chain!) Lube recommendations!

I'll look to get something this weekend

Don't want to upset anybody but I know 4 people who have had American Classics and 3 have binned them as they kept failing (loose and broken spokes, creaking, flexing). Light, strong, cheap. Pick 2.

I went to Paul last week to true and tension my Enve's, lovely chap and his shop is a real Aladdin's cave.

He had a lovely C60 with SR EPS on Bora Ultras waiting to be collected. It looked fantastic but was surprisingly heavy.

Choose your hubs according to budget and lace them to Archetype, Ambrosio or Pacenti rims and you'll have anything as good as factory aluminium wheels at any budget.

Plenty of internet reports on people having issues. However, I've done maybe 3,000 miles on mine with zero issues and they are still tight and true plus the bearings remain silky and fast. I think bigger/heavier riders can have issues with them but thankfully all good with mine. Perhaps I'm just not powerful enough to do them any damage!

My first commute into the office today and it was freezing this morning so I'll need to pick up some winter kit.

Can anyone advise a good under seat storage bag like in the picture above as I need one of those also.

    Thanks

Topeak do good quality bags. I got a pair of winter gloves in Aldi today for £4.99. They had thermals and bib tights etc too, perfectly ok for trashing through winter commutes.

Well, I just got a couple of these: http://fabric.cc/shop/waterbottle/ and they really are quite an elegant solution to the bottle cage problem...

I'm very impressed for the price.

A friend of mine has a Kona on 26" wheels. I then buy my new 27.5" model.

Today he comes round for a cuppa and informs me that he's ordered a new 29er.

We figured that if this carries on we'll both be riding Penny Farthings by this time next year :-)

Not long back from Mallorca and even though I hired a similar bike it just wasn't the same as mine. It may have been 25 degrees cooler this day but no less enjoyable

30 or so is all you need in a MTB tyre. Or if tubeless around 26-30 for the best combination of grip and performance

    Just picked this up:

Should get the build done over Christmas.
Also picked up a set of 140 travel Fox Float 32's for a steal on ebay.
Looking at using my existing Mavic Crossrides and getting new XT 2x10 groupset and SLX brakes.

My wife's new bike. Dolan Etape with SRAM Rival 22 groupset and Mavic Aksiums. Nice first bike weighing in at about 8kgs and good Black Friday bargain:

I have two a carbon monocoque which i have had for the best part of fifteen years, not bad for a carbon frame and a Preffisio an aluminium frame that has been taken back to bare metal, polished and is beasted every winter. Again it seems to be pretty much indestructible.

Both have done some serious mileage over the year and never let me down apart from the odd flat.

The carbon frame is coming to the end of its life so it would be interesting to hear how the newer carbon frames like the Etape shape up.

    Here's the Preffisio

    At last!

After a pretty long wait, it's finally here!

Back at the end of the summer I got offered one of these as a demo bike for the weekend. Having owned the previous model I was a little sceptical but also intrigued to find out if the changes they'd made for 2016 were really that noticeable. Suffice to say I was pretty much blown away, the previous version was a great bike but the shorter chainstays and slacker head angle on the new model made for a much more fun and nimble ride. For what is a very big bike, (an XL 29er) it was a lot of fun. So uncharacteristically, I placed my order, put the old up for sale and waited......

Enough waffle, here it is: 2016 Stumpjumper FSR 29

Don't normally like 29'ers but the XL frame seems to make it look 'normal'.

    Is it carbon or ali?

Thanks, I'm totally sold on 29ers and have owned nothing else for the past 3 years, especially now there are so many options with great geometry for trail riding. You're right though, it also really helps with the aesthetics if you're tall!

Rear triangle is alu, front is carbon.

After very limited time on the saddle in the previous 18 months, I've really got the bug again after moving home and being out in the countryside way. Set myself a target of riding at least a 1000 miles over the rest of the year. Not as much of a distance as a lot of you guys do but still something to aim for.

    Here's my 2.

Haven't rode this for a while but going out on it at dinner

And my eBike that I've been using quite a bit to get used to the hills etc (minus its battery that is currently being charged)

Really should have washed it over the weekend.

Bought that as a taster and now tempted to get a higher spec one.

As a matter of interest, are full suspension MTB's better for woodland and trails?

It's been a bit of a godsend to be honest. I live at the very top of a steep one mile+ hill so most of the the final part of my trek is up that. A couple of times it's ran out on me or you can feel it running out so not sure the range is what it says it can do (40 miles). My main ride out was to Holmfirth and the battery ran out as we arrived meaning most of the return leg was a killer - however, that was my fault as I'd not fully charged it.

I do only use the battery sparingly but its great for helping me regain fitness too. I've been thinking of getting a full suspension bike so thought of killing 2 birds and getting a Cube or a Trek eBike with full suspension.

Must be honest, for the money, the eco expedition ebike is fantastic value

This is the new 11 speed SRAM Force with the WiFli set up. Have SRAM Apex on my aluminium frame Rose which I've really enjoyed, but always wanted to see what difference a carbon frame would make.

They seem to fly under the radar, I put 20 miles on it Friday afternoon and was very impressed. As you say, pretty decent spec for the cash. They had a sale recently so this was actually cheaper than the current listed price, plus I specced it with the upgraded wheelset.
