The tech defiantly said it was the pinion that runs through the centre or middle, I don’t have much idea about the mechanics of movements.
I was in RSC today and mentioned the reported issues on the 32** calibre, apparently the issue has now been resolved.

Explorer 36 is actually 35mm in diameter from what I have read.
The crystal and dial size is big which gives it the appearance of being larger.
