I agree. Only thing: shame they didn't start off with the Toyota engine instead of the Rover's.

I had the 111s and it was a great car, I then had the 111r and it was an even better car. Why o why did I sell it for £13.5k!!!
1.8 VVC K-Series in mine, I'll admit to have never driven a Toyota Elise though I bloody love the way mine drives. Sounds freekin' awesome as well with its Janspeed exhaust.
It'll be 15 years in May in my ownership and I've driven around 75k in that time, currently 91k on the clock. Still feels as fit as ever.

Loved both of mine.. had a 135R in Saffron Yellow which I really wish I still had… and then bought a standard S2 in Aqua which I upgraded to RS140 spec with high lift cams.
Both of these went to buyers abroad when I sold them.
I’m sure I bought that Aqua one for under 10 grand at about 6yrs old… if I could get one at that price today I’d have one in the garage !!
This was a run out with Scottish Elises to East Fortune.. mine taking up the left flank.

No Tut in that Vulcan line up…. What a true character that man was.
Ha, for sure. Barefoot ninja.
Haven't been on Scottish Elise's for years!!!
Started with an S2, then moved on to an exige, it never had the same fun as the S2
Remember driving to hull for a wedding on the hottest day of the year with no conditioning, think that was the end of it!!!

Had this in 2009 until it got written off while stationary by a Clio jumping a red light 😭
Great car and really opened eyes to the benefits lightweight can bring after many M3s and hot hatches etc.
Replaced it with a VX220 which I still own and love.
The K series is a fantastic engine, light, torque-y, loved to rev, responsive, readily tuneable - I absolutely loved mine.
Yes in its native installation in the Elise it had an unfortunate appetite for head gaskets but that was easily fixed with an updated part if and when it failed (which mine never did).
What always amazed me was the space inside. Once in... it was (is) a lot roomier than expected! And then the bare minimum on the dash. No thrills, no frills. I once owned a 1978 Honda Civic with a 'shelf' and a 'pod' on top, holding two gauges. That was all. The Elise is the same minimalistic layout in front of the driver. Wonderful.
The car became a classic the moment it was launched. Absolutely 100% in the spirit of Colin Chapman. And it re-established Lotus' engineering quality when it comes to road holding and cornering.
And then this. Remember? Exige, I know. Without the Elise no Exige. And what a road holding!

The R reg one I had is still the only brand new car I’ve bought with my own money. It broke down a lot and had lots of faults to the extent that Lotus actually replaced it for me after a year. The S reg one was perfect.
I didn’t drive an Elise again until 2020 when I had a 220 Sport for a week while I was waiting for my Exige Sport 410 to be prepared. The 220 was awesome on B roads. I could go faster than in the Exige the bumpy narrow bits.
Superb little cars.

Technically I think the story is the S1 which is a super little thing. I only have an S3 but I do love it

I did a straight swap with a hillclimber who exchanged this for my Radical
Great wee car. Sold to a Scottish Elises member so I could buy an M5... which I hated. ' Wish I'd kept the Lotus
