Any suggestions for a skinny poor man's Panerai?

Postby davide on Mon Nov 07, 2005 4:31 pm

I love the simple explorer dial and case shape of the classic Panerais - but their size and price are too large for me - and I'm not wild about the crown arrangement :? .

Any ideas for watches which give the Panerai look and are suitable for a smaller wrist - say up to 40mm or so?

You will probably wonder what the hell I am doing posting this! I do feel it has something of a Panerai about it. I also have a vivid imagination!
£79, 31 jewel movement, 38mm without crown. Keeps good time. Has an aftermarket bracelet as the strap that comes with it is utter shite!!

Cheers,
Martin

Eddie - You're meant to be working on the new Precistas and the DN GMT.

I have 7 in the pipeline, one of which is an homage to the 1940s 40mm version without the crown guard. A sandwich dial would be lovely but I'm not sure if that's feasible at the proposed price point.

.... and the CAF hommage! I *need* squellette hands, great lugs, a rotating bezel with a pointer, and silver accents!!!

This all sound rather mouth watering to me. :D
Best Regards - Peter

I ache therefore I am. Or, in my case, I am therefore I ache. Oh look, I appear to be lying in the bottom of a very deep hole. That seems a familiar concept, what does it remind me of? Ah, yes. Life.

The 40s version homage sounds as if it would do me nicely - my ideal would be something looking like the one illustrated on p.165 of Ziggy W's book, described as an original Officine Panerai Rolex - that is one gorgeous watch.

I also love those wide parallel distressed leather straps  .

Any estimate of time?

Nice Eddie ... is this the Fricker prototype? :D

On a more serious note, is this a thread I detect on the stem tube? Is the crown unscrewed on the specimen, or does it usually stick out that far?
