The first was probably the most straightforward, he had the watches in hand and almost said what I was almost expecting. The valuation he put on them was around what I had thought would be fair, given the overheads of a dealer, the need for a warranty and so forth, but reading between the lines of the conversation, he didn’t have that amount of free cash hanging around and would let me know if he heard of anybody looking for watches of this type. Fair enough, but it was a long-winded conversation to get to this point and I would have been perfectly ok with that as a straightforward explanation.
The second dealer was far more interesting. He told me that in the past week he had had 8 or 9 people offer him 1968 5513’s and had actually bought one for around half the retail price, with box and papers... I’m not sure what I made of that.
Still, they are both back in the safe for now whilst I consider my next move. The reality is that at least one of these, alongside my reasonably modern Railmaster and my 1964 Seamaster 300 165-014 will all need to be sold in the near future.
Anybody know a dealer who is buying at the moment?
