Are there any decent watch winders on the market information added

Are there any decent watch winders on the market lately?

looking to get at least a 2 watch winder and wondered if there was anything new on the market.

all I could find in watch shops yesterday was a single one at £295 in garish bright colours.

normally I would go to Amazon first, but want to see if anyone has any ideas

I just didn't realise how much more accurate watches [particularly older ones] are when wound all the time.
Omega told me to wear my old watch and now its much more accurate after a 3 days on the wrist.
but I don't want to wear it all the time and now I have an old Seiko 6309 which I also want to keep wound.

there is a lot of conflicting opinions on watch winders on the net.
one thing from reading I believe is if you use one use a good one.

I have found settings to use watch winders here, they may be worth you bookmarking for future reference

You are probably going to be OK with an Orbita.
This one might be a little pricey and I'm not sure the wife would let me keep it in the house, but... eh? eh?

the other thing I didn't understand was the different modes

ie. run for so long rest for so long

do different watches benefit from different settings?

Turns per day and direction will vary from watch to watch. Resting reduces wear on the rotor winding mechanism in the watch.

In more sensible news, +1 to the guys recommending Barrington above. I have a couple of these and great pieces of kit at good value for money.

There are no "settings", just wear them.

Why wear out your watch movements when you are not wearing them?

Unless it's a perpetual calendar I don't see the point.

They're handy to keep a watch running over the weekend/a few days before you wear it again and you don't want to have to re-set the time/date. I like to have the minute hand hit the marker at exactly the right time, and it takes me a few attempts to get it right every time I set the watch. A winder means I have to do this less often!

I don't wear my SM300 very often as its just too nice, after a long lay of I thought it was too inaccurate for me.

Omega told me to wear it [so as to keep the oils moving] after 3 days timekeeping was back to how it was when I got it.
but all the time I wanted to wear something else and couldn't.
I wore it to London to collect my Tudor Ranger and every watch shop I went in commented on how nice it was.

sorry going of track,so I figured a 2 watch winder would be an idea to leave it on there and run it once a week or so.
leaving room for another watch to be kept ready to wear, like the old 6309 I just bought.

I had never thought about it, but I guess its the same with old motorcycles/cars they are always better when run regularly

most people only have one watch so its not a problem, we forget we are the exceptions to the rule.

Oils don't "move about".

I am open to correction from our watch repairers but the whole idea is for oil to stay on the friction points and not slosh around.

My Barrington arrived this afternoon.
its not so much quiet as silent I thought it was broken at first.
the green light only come on when turning so battery's should last a long time if you don't use the mains.
I set my Fortis Flieger at 850, turning both ways.

I added some winder settings info to my first post for you

I've bought 4x Rapport, 4x Kadloo, and 2x Eilux.

The Rapports seemed of barely OK quality, but the cases were really nice in wood. After a year or so some of them would start to make a little bit of noise or turn a tiny bit more slowly but still functioned 'okay'.

Two of the Kadloos died and the others turn a lot more slowly now.

The two Eilux have been running for about 10 years now. Always on battery, and they have hugely long battery lives (at least 3 months?) compared to the Rapports and Kadloos, even though they use regular C-cell batteries.

I lost interest in keeping several watches on winders now so I only use 1 or 2 of the Eilux winders at a time, but if I was going to buy any more of them, I'd definitely buy Eilux if I wasn't willing to spend money on an Orbita.

Approximately 5 years ago and it has been used on a regular basis, for all makes of watches from a Seiko - Patek Philippe.

I realise that it may not be to everyones tastes, but all I needed was a watch winder for two watches, the price is great and it has been extremely reliable :)

Whatever winder you go for, do not, even for the briefest moment, consider the purchase of a Ferocase product.

In my experience they sell cheap, nasty, poor quality products, with vastly inflated RRP prices and extremely unhelpful aftersales service. They also try to get any negative comments removed from web sites (including TZ-UK).

If you just want a cheap no-frill winder, then I've had good experiences with Time Tutelary. No fancy leather or expensive woods, but they do make your watch go around and around (which, after all, is the main purpose of a watch winder!) and offer extremely good value for money.

A tilted record player works as well...

A belt drive model will give your timepiece more pace, rhythm and timing but a direct drive offers a more accurate wind.

I bought a Barrington too. It's really nicely designed and made, without being "up itself". Selectable turns per day and direction (or alternating). It's very quiet, and using battery or adapter power is useful. I did have a problem with the one I received. Being in Japan, I tend to fear the hassle of dealing with issues from overseas but Barrington could not have been more helpful. Instant response, replacement on its way, no questions. There are a LOT of watch winders on the market, but I suspect not so many where the company behind them is as helpful. Recommended.

My Barrington turned up today. Had to sent it back to exchange for the smaller cushion version as the 'normal' size is for a min 8 inch wrist size. I didn't even think to check as I thought my 6.75' wrist is pretty average. Doh.

That's odd - the cushion adjusts ( just push the spring-loaded thing on the back ) and I found the default cushion fine for my watches, same size wrist.

I did that. Even with maximum compression I could only *just* close the clasp on my PO. I didn't want to stretch my older ExpII oyster and the leather strap I have on my AT would only just close on the last hole.

Their website does show that the 'normal' winder is for 20-24cm bands, whereas the small cushion winder is for 15-20.5cm bands. My wrists are 17cm which makes sense with the sizings if I had checked them first.
