I've got a couple of rain proof jackets; North face etc, and have noticed the "waterproofness" diminishes over time. Is there anything I can treat them with to refresh the rain repellency?

It depends on what material they are. Any further info?

Nikwax are very good products
If it is goretex then wash it first using one of their products (tech wash maybe it's called?).
Then use their proofing

techwash great but I wouldn't use a waterproofing wash in as it coats both sides. Spray on product works better IMO.Quote:

Another recommendation for Nikwax here too, I think Granger's is another alternative which I've seen and heard of but haven't used.

Nikwax although it's never as good as the treatment they put on from the factory
I use the Fjällräven PFC-Free stuff and iron-in wax, works for me, but I doubt it's any better than the Nikwax products mentioned.
I use WD40 on my Aquascutum Bogart.
Keeps the damp at bay plus you get the bonus of that unmistakable and masculine heady WD aroma.

ALDI 'Waterproofing Spray' - "Ideal for breathable garments and shoes".
Cheap as chips and works very well on my 28-year-old Barbour and (younger) shooting boots.
If your after Nikwax have a look at Tesco Direct, a few times a year they have some really good offers on multi packs which make it far cheaper than walking and climbing shops. I buy loads for my walking and biking gear and it saves me a fortune.
Answer to another poster - Barbour sell tins of their wax, ie the stuff they use in the factory.
You need to heat the tin in a pan of boiling water to soften the wax, then you smear it in to the jacket. Works very efficiently.
