Never seen anything like it. Lapland was good but mostly green. This is stunning.
Difficult to escape light pollution on the London borders, but I have taken a walk onto the local golf course and it is now evident in red and green streaks.
Someone is going to call the police on me soon, haha
Luckily we have fields out back. This is above my house.

It’s amazing.
I first saw it in Lapland, then an amazing show in Iceland but what I am seeing in Wiltshire beats both of them.
Never seen it pink before!

Yes, from the bedroom window, amazing.
Triffids arrive tomorrow...
Even down in Dorset. Wow.
I am rather jealous. Nothing visible here in NW London. :-(
This is northeast Iowa, about 42.5 N (approximately same latitude as Rome):

Our local facebook pages (Cornwall) are full of spectacular pics from last night.
That’s what I told the wife! [emoji23][emoji23]
We caught a tiny bit of it on the south coast

But my brother in North Yorkshire had a better show!

Went driving up a local hill, it was stunning , a huge arch of light from the North East to the North West. Just visible as a reddish glow with the naked eye , then using an iphone on night setting it was stunning.
Gratuitous MX5 inclusion as this is TZ

Some fantastic photos in this thread, thank-you. This one isn't in that category unfortunately, and the phone made it a lot more obvious than it was to the naked eye. Too much light pollution to the north I think (Coalville). From NW Leics.

Nice pics and we got a good show up here.
However, if I recall correctly, back in the 70s the sky looked like that most Friday nights :hypnotysed:
:icon_biggrin:
Gutted I missed it …
Is this actually what you could see with the naked eye or have your cameras / phones set on night-mode enhanced theses?

FYI, NOAA provide the most accurate forecast, but it is only a 30 minute window.
Apparently Aurora borealis was visible as far south as S. Arizona in the US, and Aurora australis as far north as Queensland in Aus.
Lincolnshire managed a decent effort -

This thread is best viewed whilst listening to Mark Knopfler playing "Going Home".
......or watching Local Hero.
Definitely enhanced but what I could see last night was unbelievable. Saw it in Lapland (northern) and yes was magical but it didn't stand out to the naked eye as this did last night in the Midlands! I couldn't believe what I was seeing in my back garden!

Surprisingly got a pretty great view in South London, out on an aerodrome at 2am granted... took some effort to escape artificial light!
Visible but very muted by eye, but through a camera it was wonderful. This was using 1-second exposure on an APS-C camera.

Anything happening tonight (Sat?). Ah I see it is! Bit further south here in the Iberian peninsula but will keep an eye out.
Some great photos.
Anyone seeing anything yet?
Ive had a few glasses of Beckfords….will that help?
Looks like you will have to stay up until the early hours to get the best of it tonight.

Beware those times are UTC (GMT) so you need to add an hour for BST.
According to X the country is awash with people who have travelled to places en mass to see it tonight but have been disappointed. We’re at the beach on the north east coast and zilch. Pleased I saw it last night in my garden.
Well I'm currently on a dark country road staring in vain at the northern horizon.
When we turned up two hours ago I was surprised to see half a dozen other cars parked up on the verge but thought that others had had the same idea as me. After all this spot has clear views of the horizon and not too much immediate light pollution. However no one was out of their cars chatting or even looking at the sky.My suspicions were aroused (just my suspicions, nothing else) when one car parked up behind mine, stayed for a couple of minutes then drove off. Other cars have also parked up, hung around for a short time and then disappeared. I am now wondering if the reasons for the other's presence here is not quite so innocent as mine and my son's. I haven't heard any suspension rocking and no one has swapped cars.
Anyway, time I went home.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^ I know exactly how you feel , we went out Friday night to a local beauty spot atop a local hill. There were a number of cars there and no one stood around. My first thought was are they practicing a canine pursuit!
Shamelessly stolen image of the magnificent spectacle.

That looks like something I might have seen last night if I had looked into the cars parked near by.
