hi, yes for my sins i was many years repairing accident damage / body repairs, so i can paint, weld etc with set up in my garage and do my own mechanicals/ engine rebuilds ,that was before i became a desk jockey/ insurance assessor using computers !old age is taking its toll now doing the work, and i dont really touch new stuff other than brake pads & occasional code reading.
TomGW
the top dials were on the series 1 cars 67-68, GT and 1600E were same set up as lotus just minus the engine .
Know the feeling, in my youth I worked in the paint rectification dept at a car plant for a while. Came in handy a few times over the years with cars and bikes.
Like you I don’t do much anymore. The car’s too new to play with although I do tinker with the bike. A far cry from rebuilding a Pontiac when my Trans Am decided to become a real Firebird thanks to a leaking fuel bowl pipe on a Holley carb!
Thanks for showing your cars, nice to see.
Don’t think I’ve added to this since the RS Clio, which has now gone, along with the Altea, which died a complicated and expensive mechanical death that I never got to the bottom of.
In their place:

This old knocker of a mk2 Golf. Straight and solid and rocking a 1.8 carb mated to a 3 speed auto. Oh dear.
It’s on the worst coilovers known to man and had a badgeless Jetta front end on it when I picked it up. It’s heading for an 1.8 20VT engine conversion and about 260bhp come February.

For the general running around in.
I needed something reliable and still had the ‘while it lasts’ benefit of cheap VED. It’s not mint but it’s not far off and had a full history. The S-Lines have a few extra styling niceties but this one had the tech and a proper FASH and it was £4K cheaper than an equivalent S-Line.
Because I can’t leave them alone, it’s had some Still Static modified H&R ‘Deep’ coilovers which drop it a minimum of 70mm and go down to 140, some Rotor alloys which I had repainted silver and a set of S5 brakes (not pictured). The Audi tyre spec is 255/35/19 but I am looking at going down to a 235 as the current width is what’s stopping me bringing it closer to the floor.
Nice - always liked Audi Avants (especially fast ones).
WRT the ride height mods - I'm assuming you don't have speed bumps in your area? ;-)
So is skyman back or not?
Asides from my daily car (Mercedes C220) I've owned this for 7 years now (you know... it's law... I own an MX5!)

Just 41k on the clocks and I've probably spent the same as the car cost, modifying it into a fast B road toy. Main mods are:
- MeisterR CRD Coil Overs
- Jass Performance Chassis Rails
- GCFabrications Roll Bar
- Complete teardown of the car from the gearbox back, bare metal strip and repaint
- IL Motorsport Uprated Bushes
- IL Motorsport adjustable droplinks
- Racing Beat rear exhaust section
- IL Motorsport mid section
- K&N Typhoon Induction
Power is the standard 150bhp VVT 1.8 which I do find is enough to exploit. The car is really nice and stiff with the chassis upgrades, so it's just fun on the small B roads here in NI.
Despite only 41k on the clocks and a "garage queen" life, the underneath needed time out and some TLC:
https://live.staticflickr.com/1633/2...9de9ec28_b.jpg
Now, the underneath is back to new - everything built up with new bushes and OE bolts:

Interior, well.. it's custom trimmed. The original seats suffered from a mouldy smell from I bought the car. It must've got wet at some stage with the roof down.

I've thought of changing it many times, but its just a toy for warm/dry days. I take it out for a blast just to clear my head mostly and it's definitely up to the job! Parts cost next to nothing. Reliability is flawless. Definitely deserves the reputation that it has.

Thanks Peter - it was off the road for 4 years and if you saw that Nutz thread... I was lucky I didn't lose the car when it got lifted on a forklift! I'd had it stored in a local garage but the owner went out of business. Didn't tell me.... first I knew was when a friend called to the house to tell me to get up there quick as my MX5 was on a forklift being taken away!
This was the car, June of this year:

I'm in Waringstown Tom... so only a few miles away indeed. James is an absolute genius at detailing. His paint correction and ceramic coating on the car have it looking like liquid metal. Andrew from DentsNI a few doors round is the same - performed magic on the car. Removed a major dent from the passenger door and about 9 minor dings.
I seem to have failed to update this thread.

Excuse the Q&D pic but I've not had time to clean it since the new tyres were fitted & the lowering springs (plus uprated ARB's) went on. Previous pictures where it's lovely & clean show it with the almost 4x4 like factory stance.
Yeah of course there are.....
Audi have managed to tuck everything away quite nicely, so these go pretty low (static) without much scraping of parts. You just have to be careful over aforementioned speed bumps. I do get the occasional rub of the tyre on the arch liner, but that's mostly because the 255s are a touch wide.
I've got over the 'needing something fast all the time' thing, that car is 161bhp and about 300 ft lbs, but it's adequate and I can sling a couple or three bikes on the roof and fill the boot up with all of the other crap of modern life.
I went for the 2.0L. It's a 2015 car so about 165bhp as standard vs the 185bhp of the current cars.
I wasn't tempted by the RF at all. I too think the soft top is nicer looking. I'm sure the RF is quieter with the roof up, but it's heavier (just where you don't want extra weight) there is more to potentially go wrong and with the roof down you're still quite enclosed (a bit like the Exige with the roof off).
The soft top is lovely & open
https://i.imgur.com/tSohKWV.jpg
but especially with the windows up, there is very little buffeting. Yes you need to clean & proof them every 6 months or so, but it's not a big job and the soft top is so quick to raise & lower it really encourages top down driving at every opportunity.
Cheers. My perfect spec would be a bolder colour, but black does look really aggressive.
Like that, although you can get bumper stickers too of course.
Had to get a plate for "Gervais"

I sold my MGB for a MGTF. Regret it sometimes.

I fancied owning a 2 seater again, after much deliberation and changing my mind as to what to go for, I got this last month (I previously had an f)
Day off work today so spent the afternoon giving it a going over with Zymol

Nice looking MGTF. I have the same model in black, 2009 manufacture and registered in 2013.

Rarely see them these days.
Had forgotten they were mid engined!
Looks in great condition for the age, clearly looked after.
Yours looks in very good condition.
No it’s not the LE500, but was fitted with leather seats. I bought from the same place as you on the A1.

I px’d my 1972 MGB. I sometimes regret the change. But the tf is a great ride, done the North Coast 500 last year, just under 2000 miles taking 10 days. There were 8 other classic cars in our group. It was just brilliant.
We were going to do a Wales trip in May but COVID spoilt all that.

It’s worth a stop just to have a look around, they also have a indoor showroom. They certainly have a lot there, and the service is 1st class.

Mine’s used for fun days out, and short breaks away. Not enough packing room for all the wife’s shoes.

A few months back I bought this S54 Laguna Seca blue Z3m coupe.
It had 2 previous owners, the vendor had owned it 18 years but only covered 3500 miles in the last 11 years.
I’ve never owned one before but have to say I absolutely love the way it drives.

That is stunning! Love the colour too.
Lovely car, best colour and rare with the S54 engine. Get out and drive it and it'll still be worth more than you paid for it.
I had a Boston Green S50 roadster in 2004
Nice. Laguna Seca Blue and Phoenix Yellow are the best colours BMW do.
Just took delivery of this and ain't stopped smiling all weekend.
Drives superb and look the business.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...b606d6016e.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...4ef832f3c6.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...cfc8382350.jpg

Agree with this, bought my low mileage two year old T6 with new camper conversion in the summer, hardly any difference in price to a similar age and mileage camper that was not VW. But compare ten to fifteen year old ones from other makers compared to VW campers the same age and the VW ones have held up to 10k more of their value.
Very nice bus by the way G.

I don’t think £60k is a lot for these considering the quality and spec of them. Very functional vehicles, sporty looks and well built.
