Sometime in the mid to late 70s I bought a new Moonwatch. Cost £400 iirc and I thought that was a heck of a lot to pay for a watch, but I'd always wanted one so.....
Sold it in 2001, virtually unworn for £800, and I was amazed to have doubled my money.
How times and prices have changed!

The most recent sale you are referring to is a 2018 big box model. The current models sell for much more than that.
Aggressive? I just countered your point that they are selling for close to half the retail price. Omega making minor changes and changing the reference number for me doesn't justify calling it a new model.
What was the retail in 2017? Around £5k? If you got a 30% discount from a dealer then it probably backs the argument up that they were over priced then.
The point is omega is now over priced. Doesn't mean I don't like there watches, own a seamaster. I just think they have pushed their prices too much. The Speedy Pro for me is the worst value but even there DSOTM range at £10k to £15k depending on the model, it just silly.
When you look at second hand values proportionally to RRP Omega are nearly getting as bad as Tag.
And that is the way it was, and the way it should be for mass produced machine-made watches, bar the odd Rolex SS model.Quote:

For what’s it’s worth, I agree that the speedmaster pro isn’t worth the money omega are asking for it these days however it is one of the most iconic watches of all time so understand why omega want to elevate its price point to make it a more exclusive and sought after piece.
I haven’t owned one, nor do I intend to. But, over the years of reading and watching reviews, the Speedy seems to be watch that generally disappoints the most in relation to its current p1ss take of a price.Quote:

I bought mine in 2019 and retail was £4150 at the time. You could buy new from a grey dealer for around £3200 and I paid £2500 for a mint two year old example on here.Quote:

Watch prices in general for the big brands have become crazy over the past few years, I cannot imagine paying anything close to asking price for any of them. Latest Omega increase simply compounds the stupidity. Apart from the prices I find Omegas current offerings as dull as dishwater and I’ve no urge to own any of them. My enthusiasm for their 60s and early - mid 70s watches remains, and I still own a few from late 90s/ early noughties, but they’re so far removed from the current stuff that any brand empathy is totally lost.
When are they going to stop banging on about the moon thing? Surely they've squeezed the last drops out of the lemon? Also time they stopped using James Bond ( who’s actually a fictitious character) as a brand ambassador.

I grew out of all that stuff it at the age of 8 so I find it hard to relate to any of it. I don’t care whether a Speedmaster went to the moon or Brighton beach, it’s just another bloody watch that should be judged on its merits.
Not sure 'First Watch Worn On Brighton Beach' is much of a sales booster though..........

I once upon a time bought a Speedy Tuesday Ultraman which I soon sold on as the gimmicky UV light up ultraman symbol was embarrassing (that was the first and last time I ever got caught up in the hype over a watch).
Omega really need to stop with all these gimmicks and let the quality and styling of their watches do the talking.

The speedy is a great watch but the design doesn't scream 'affluence' in today's market. That's not a bad thing but its bound to decrease desirability as the flagship watch in a brand.
More to the point, Omega's marketing and branding work over recent years hasn't really increased their cachet where they can be charging these sort of retail prices.
Breitling and Tudor, at their relative price points, have done a much better job IMO.

I heard it was limited to full precious metal and bi metal versions. That's meant around £300 increase on this Globemaster and the likes of the seamaster bi metal.
