Well here we go again, and speaking of safes...
We decided to have a bash at an 'Escape Room in a Box' having always quite enjoyed puzzling our way out of the more physical versions (Hungarians can be particularly fiendish). This was very well designed with a nicely thought out variety of challenging but achievable puzzles, a few red herrings and a clever mechanism for 'unlocking' each stage. There are a large number these available so it took a bit of research to decide what to go for; we felt that this one was pitched about right to include the whole family (our children are aged 13 and 15), get used to the concepts involved, and sustain interest (We cracked it in 70 minutes which is just about right). This brand is single use, involving getting stuck in and destroying some of the items which took the kids aback at first but was enjoyable. We've since ordered a couple more with slightly higher difficulty levels.
