Many thanks all - some useful thoughts. There's no doubt in my mind that prices have dropped over the last couple of years and there are some lovely watches on the sales forum here that are going for...
I've never known this forum to be so slow for selling - even watches that would have flown within hours in previous years are unsold or sell for less than previously. I accept that times are hard,...
The only IWC I’ve ever owned. A 1952 issued Mk 11.

Sad to see he won't actually be going to prison as the sentence is suspended - which seems surprising for such moronic behaviour.
One of the reasons the brothers gave last night was that the COSC process is very slow and cumbersome at the moment and they created their own at least comparable standard to bypass delays.
I was at the superb Tower of London launch last night and was able to wear the watches. What the photos don't show is the quality and beauty of the dials. A lot of work has gone into them.
While...
I wanted to thank everyone again for the SF recommendations.
I've started with Adrian Tchaikovsky's Children of Time and am really enjoying it - it's everything SF should be (for me). I'll be...
RIP to a much loved Queen.
Long live The King.
Watch collectors' forums which are now more like Twitter with members being gratuitously rude and beating each other up over totally trivial issues.
Yes indeed I read most of Arthur C Clarke as far as I recall - I was really trying to find some more contemporary writers to catch up on my years lost to SF - I've had plenty of great suggestions...
Once again, many thanks to all - I've a few years of reading suggestions here.
I remember now that I did read some Iain Banks years ago.
Many thanks to everyone for these suggestions, I was standing in front of the SF shelves in Waterstones really not knowing what to choose...
I used to love reading sci-fi but haven’t really read much for years. I enjoy fantasy but really prefer the space travel/ inter galactic war/ adventure side with a string scientific base - Dune etc....
I was lucky enough to go to Antarctica three years ago. We called in at the South Georgia whaling station that Shackleton reached after his boat voyage from Elephant Island - and where he was...
I was amazed that she didn't take off that very expensive and huge diamond ring.
I’m enjoying the trend to smaller watches and it’s interesting seeing what a man would have worn in the 1930s. My newly acquired Jaeger LeCoultre Etanche.

Good point - the standard BB is the daily wear.
I was at Tudor/Rolex Townhouse in St James's Square - a press launch I suppose.
They told me that the patina should develop quite quickly - can...
I am very tempted - I've been wanting a bronze watch and this could be the one! But my standard BB58 would have to go :(
The clasp is an improvement on the current BB58 in particular as it has some 8mm (I think they said) of adjustment over 5 positions so there is no need to fiddle with removing pins if the watch is...
I popped into Tudor earlier and tried it on.
The explorer dial is rather nice and a change from the original 58 dial. The bronze case and bracelet are subtle and quite lightweight. Overall, as an...
I drove it a couple of years ago and echo the advice to do it anti-clockwise as the western coast is breathtaking. At least two weeks is needed to avoid frustratingly missing stuff.
Some good...
For me too it's the wonder of wearing a totally mechanical miniature object on the wrist that can keep time so accurately. I particularly like hand-wound watches as they give that contemplative...
I came in here thinking this was a chat about the valuation of Tudor Submariner Snowflakes - which just shows what a one-track mind I have.
I wonder what caused that?
Yes, some patina can be attractive but the overuse of terms such as 'tropical dial' for a totally ruined dial are often no more than optimistic seller's wishful thinking.
It was to be delivered 'Royal Mail Second Class Large Letter' - which must have been a clue.
