Gearbox seals gone and pissing oil onto the clutch, and the clutch slave cylinder disintegrated on removal... but it still rode in to the workshop.

Who bothers HPI'ing a motorbike made 1979 ? It's 42 years old for gods sake. If it has a V5 it's a simple check online check on the dvla website to see if it'a legit. ... any insurance catagories...
I wished. The 1100/1150 models is a simple “pivot up the subframe on the front mounting bolts“ to get the gearbox off..., on the 1200 models you have to split the bike in half .. now all back in one...
All this to replace a £6 seal. . good job my customers have a sense of humour.

While you were messing about doing all that i was out riding my 42 year old Guzzi.
If you have an oil/air cooled BMW 1200 do not wash it and then put it in the garage. Wash it before you take it out for a ride so it has a chance to really get dry.
I have a nice collection of BMW...
They haven't gone. You can buy them, drill and tap where you want to fit them and away you go. No more worn out bearings/linkages......
But people would rather buy some tacky go-faster...

I've got the electric version. Had it more than 10 years now, no other lift comes close to the quality. . Plus a scissor lift bench doesn't need as much room as a cantilever type bench.
Spot on. Many years ago I bought a pair of used Ohlins for my 1150 GS.
They improved the ride, but not by the £1200 they would've cost new, i could live with the £400 i actually paid used.

I only ever tell any non riding pillion out on the back for the first time to look over my left shoulder when turning left and the right shoulder when turning right.

Try the Moto Piston Rally. An excellent event. I did the 2012 Moto Piston with a large group of friends and everyone enjoyed it.
After the rally finished i spent a few days by myself riding around...
