The starting point is to get some decent straps, makes the job so much easier as you can adjust tension forward and aft.

ROK Straps. Not cheap, but they work well....

The dogbones in my Aprilias used needle bearings. Far better than bushings. The only guys that complained were those who didn't give them the occasional regreasing and were amazed when they seized up.

Fair play.....at least they're not forming a rolling roadblock like the Harleys and GS's usually do.

The TST RS is on my radar.....seriously tempted.

FWIW...get an old knacker as a starter bike.
About 30% the cost of a new one.
You'll avoid getting yourself stressed about slow speed drops doing u turns etc.
Keep it for about 6 months...thrash...
