It didnt feel like a James Bond film. Irrelevant fact, but an old friend of mine is Daniel Craig's stunt double in this and the previous film. Won an award this week for his work.

I saw Cockneys vs Zombies the other night. I thought it was OK, but no more. On the plus side, it does have Alan Ford reprising his Brick Top performance.

Haven't been following this thread and I'd be surprised if the film hasn't been mentioned before but The King's Speech has just started on Channel 4, easily in my top 5 that I've seen.

I shall now enjoy my 5th time of viewing, such a charming and delicately put together film.

Recently watched a French film, prison drama called "The Prophet". Probably one of the best movies I've seen in a while.

I thought that was brilliant too.

Watched a French film called "A Gang story" after it was recommended here. Thought it was brilliant too.

Yesterday I watched "The Descendants" and it's a pretty good film. Good script, well written ; actors are good too, even the youngsters (which is quite rare, in fact).

A few days ago, I watched for the nth time "The Shawshank redemption". I'm a big fan of it and I'm never disappointed.

A few weeks ago I watched "Source Code" directed by Duncan Jones, British director (whose father is famous). Not perfect but entertaining. "Moon" was quite interesting too, by the way.

And recently I watched (indeed for the nth time again) two movies from French director Alain Resnais : "Smoking/No Smoking" which are amongst my favorites ever. They're based on the play(s) "Intimate exchanges", written by Alan Ayckbourn. The French adaptation is very good and faithful to the original. These movies are simply great. A kind of perfect "Entente cordiale"

Watched "Le Prénom" last week and it was hilarious! A bit like "Carnage" but, at least for me, more enjoyable.

Most recently watched Zero Dark Thirty at the cinema and watched the remake of Total Recall on a flight from Honolulu to Houston last week. I'd read that the remake is closer to the book than the Arnie version and I really enjoyed it.

Anyone watched any good movies recently?

As Amazon kindly delivered my Blu ray early, I finally got around to seeing Skyfall. Really enjoyed it, and nice to see Bond modeling my (most likely) next watch purchase for me.

    Zero Dark Thirty - 8/10.
Pitch Perfect (ahem) - 7/10 (hilarious).
Flight - 9/10 - Typical flawless performance by Denzel.

Complicit- on Channel 4, probably still available on 4OD. A suspected terrorist is monitored by an agent for MI5, who has to decide if he should break the rules to get the outcome that he wants. Very well written and Excellent lead performances make this a film that you will think about after you've seen it!

I saw an advance screening of this for free courtesy of Sky, I still wanted my money back, a truely awful pretentious pile of poo.

Lincoln - I am sure it is hugely significant to US citizens, but really a pretty drawn out, over-long and boring film in my opinion. Tommy Lee Jones is awful in the supporting role, but will probably win an Oscar. Daniel Day Lewis, as usual, gives a character acting masterclass.

Flight - very, very impressive film about a difficult subject. If you haven't seen it, it is not a film about a pilot. It is a film about alcoholism and addiction and the damage they do. The best film I have seen in a long time and Denzel Washington is superb.

Argo - deserves all of the accolades it is getting. Superb direction and pacing and very convincingly set 'in period'. All the performances are great, but Alan Arkin is a stand-out in my opinion.

Saw "Zodiac" the other night from 2007. Loved it.

It is essentially the hunt for a serial killer active in San Francisco in the '60's and '70's.

Lots of red herrings and a convoluted story with credible acting although the Zodiac was never caught.

Interestingly the killer may have taken his name from a Zodiac watch he owned.
    Cheers,

Flight with Denzel Washington - fantastic actor and a very good film. Man on Fire is another fine performance and well worth watching.

Zero Dark Thirty - harrowing and scarily realistic, with excellent acting.

Watched "Jacob's Ladder" again (first time in 15 years). Wonderful and thought provoking film brought down slightly by the government conspiracy angle.

Looper with all the mixed reviews I avoided it, but caught up with it at the weekend, well worth a watch

Zero Dark Thirty, very uncomfortable watching to be honest, the torture scences are not brutal or gory just in my mind probably very realistic.

End Of Watch: If you liked Training Day then this should float your boat.

The wife and child were away this weekend, so very busy watching films

This one is different. The White Ribbon, a German production, double-Oscar nominated and beautifully filmed in black and white.
Set in a pre-War northern German farming community it deals with a possibly true account of isolation, sadism, abuse and the power of duty over love. Oddly compelling. Subtitled. My dad, who grew up in such a community (minus sadism, abuse and so on, and in pre-WWII Prussia) loved the scenic background, and saw the film on TV, then bought the DVD, which I watched this afternoon.

Killing them softly - it's so bitter and cold that it's hard to really like it, but it certainly is a most exceptional movie.

Now THAT sounds like a movie.

It may have already been mentioned, but I watched Margin Call on Sky anytime last week and really enjoyed it. Well worth a watch for those interested in the banking collapse back in 2008.

Really interesting view of the lesser-seen America, and terrific acting too.

Yes Michael Hanake's stuff tends to be uncomfortable watching, sometimes confusing, but very thought-provoking. I did a bit of a Haneke season a while back, watching The White Ribbon, Hidden, Funny Games, and Time Of The Wolf. Not exactly enjoyable, but certainly interesting. His head must be a scary place to be!
