Cameras on a Lamppost - What Are They For?

Saw this tonight on a lamppost on an A road near me. All black so obviously doesn’t want to stand out and be spotted.

Anyone know what they are for? Googled it, but nothing similar from the search came up

Traffic survey cameras apparently. They will probably disappear after they have enough data.

They may belong to a traffic consultancy firm that are collecting data on traffic movements, parking etc.

According to authoritative sources these are charging stations for pigeons. It stops the council from having to catch them to change the batteries.

When you look around you’ll see quite a few sensors, cameras and other data collection devices in urban areas.

Lots going on behind the scenes. Some cities are way ahead of others.

They put cameras like that around here for a few weeks every now and again, around here it’s when the low life start to get arrogant and openly flaunt the dealing and off road bikes.

I saw a load of this type of camera in a village on the A77 between Stranraer and Ayr last week. In an area signposted “Average speed check”. They were on almost every lamp post. I assumed it was monitoring speed.

First time I’ve ever seen this type of camera
