    Speedmaster 145.022 '72

    Morning all,

Does the above reference of Speedmaster exist from 1972? I'm trying to research this model from my birth year but not having a lot of luck. Best I can do is a year either side of '72.

Apologies if this has been asked already, I'm away and confined to using tapatalk on my phone, not the easier to navigate when it comes to searching the forums.

    TIA

1st Google hit come up with:

    http://www.fratellowatches.com/speed...-guide-part-1/

However, if we only look at stainless steel watches, you could say there are a number of versions:
    • 145.022-68 ‘Transitional
    • 145.022-69
    • 145.022-71
    • 145.022-74
    • 145.022-76
    • 145.022-78

After that, the 145.022 becomes the 145.0022. The -XX indicates the production year of the caseback. Let there be no misunderstanding that this also indicates the production year of the entire watch. For example, the 145.022-69 was produced from 1969 to 1971. The fact that a caseback indicates 145.022-76 and -78 for example, does not mean that Omega did not produce any Speedmaster Professional 145.022 watches in 1977. Always refer to the serial or movement number (not to be confused with caliber number) that is engraved on the movement.

Not a categoric answer (even assuming the information is correct), but it would suggest that models would have been made in the year you're looking for.

Good choice for a birth year watch BTW.

    Have a look at www.speedmaster101.com.

And specifically www.speedmaster101.com/145-022-71-74-76-78/. Which I read as saying they were produced in 1972, but not stamped '72'.

To establish, as best you can, the year of production, an Extract of the Archives may help. See http://www.speedmaster101.com/blog/o...watch-out-for/, and www.omegamuseum.ch/extract-archives.

    What he said :-)

    SP101 is a great site.

Also have a swing by the Omega Forum, specifically the Vintage section. Also there are always some nice watches for sale there too.

I think there are a lot of unknowns with early omegas regards build years ,I am lead to believe they didnt keep there books/records up to date back then. Mines a 861,1039 bracelet with stepped dial and hippocampus on the back. Not sure of the year though?

What is the reference number in the case back...and what are the first 4 digits of the c.861s serial number? They will get you close:

...both are links from Speedmaster101's home page, How to Buy a Vintage Speedmaster.

Thanks again everyone, back home in the UK now and can checkout these links on a laptop rather than a phone. The Chuck Maddox site looks impressive, headache inducing, almost!

Whilst away I noticed I'd been granted viewing privileges for SC, I see a few with the 145022 ref (not necessarily '72's) have come up for sale in there.
