Thread: Anyone Going Away For Easter?

  1. #1

    Anyone Going Away For Easter?

We feel very fortunate to be heading off as a family to travel the Garden Route in South Africa for a couple of weeks.

Although to keep the flight prices manageable we are flying via Qatar, which when I look on the map is one large diversion. I think we could have got to Australia quicker.

    Anyone else heading off?

Only 4 days off. And the usual trip up north: with a 60hp inflatable RIB and 2 Splash dinghies (a Splash is a small hull laser with a larger sail - more instable = difficult to sail) on a trailer to the lakes in Friesland (looks like Norfolk). The annual start of the sailing regatta season. My son in his boat and we (other parents and I) will follow the races as rescue unit. One parent is a orthopeadic surgeon without a skippers lisence and I am the guy at the helm (steering wheel).
My son stepped from the optimist into the Splash after his last races in Bandol. This is first regatta in his new boat...

First weather forecasts for the Easter Weekend are very very promising! 15 - 20 degrees and 15 knots wind. Perfect.

Nowhere near as exotic, but the missus and I are going to Conwy for five days.

But here's the thing that makes it special - without the kids! They are going to my sisters so that we can have our first holiday away on our own in fourteen years.

Love 'em to bits, but I can't wait!

Got a friends wedding somewhere in rural Ireland. A castle as I recall.

Can't blooming wait. Three days on the lash. Long, long overdue.

Off to a cottage in Anglesey with friends who have a matching brood to ours (twin 5yo girls and a 3yo boy) so - one house, six kids and four adults. What could possibly go wrong!

Over the Easter weekend we're off to Mull and Balamory!

We've got a 2 bed holiday cottage, and the kids (6 and 3) are very excited about the ferry journey and seeing Archie's pink castle (and that's not a euphanism!)

We're back for 10 days then off to Cornwall for a week. I can't wait.

Off up to Whitby to see Sister in Law, hopefully some dry weather and some great Yorkshire ale.

Even better might get a BMW 640d to cruise up North.

    Ha!

I'm taking my daughter and 4 other screaming teenagers to go and see years and years the week after next... Can't wait!

You'll have a better view, but, I genuinely don't mind years and years!

My wife and kids are heading to the UK for a fortnight, which gives me a chance to explore some of the less family friendly parts of Colombia.

Off to Symmonds Yat to paddle the river Wye for 3 days with my canoe club, assuming my car gets me there.
Camping while there, apparently the temperature won't drop below 2 °c so that's OK then.

Probably diving in Vobster Quay, near Frome, on Good Friday.

Hardly 'away', but it's a first open water dive in preparation for two weeks in Indonesia in April, so I'm not complaining

Yep, several times. They're amazing. I think they're listed as a UNESCO world heritage site. Kraków is beginning to feel like home.

Last minute trip to Mevagissey for us. Nothing fancy just a bit of sea air, few Cornish ales and some nice food.

Maldives hopefully in a few months time (when we can narrow down where the heck to go).

Tivoli is always pleasant and a stroll around Neuhavn is warranted too.

Loved York when we went about 2 months before the floods, the Jorvik Viking Centre was great and our kids loved it, not sure if it's back up and running after floods ?

Wife's dream holiday, we're off to the Maldives. Had a scare last week when A&E said my sons arm was broken but after 4 days in a temporary cast the consultant said it wouldn't need anything as long as he is careful!

I've been there, thankfully a distant memory now. These days I avoid hotels whenever I can and hate holidays. Mrs Draftsmann and I are fortunate to have several homes so we get a regular change of scenery. Our next three weeks will take in London, Yorkshire and the Isle of Man, perfect!

The Jorvik Viking centre is closed until spring 2017 , because of the floods . Most other places seem to be open .

    why exactly?

that possibly they might extract EXIF data from one of my previous photos, track down my address, work out the dates I am away and then come and steal my monies?

Southern Spain, haven't been over for a few months, but just in case anyone is planning a burglary the house won't be empty.
