    <£100 watch.

Go on, let's see what you can do?!

I'm already wanting another watch, something very cheap this time, but nice. Maybe a lowish price G Shock? It's going to be for work which involves some manual stuff like moving cages and boxes around, but generally I'm desk based...

Help a brother out! I may go into the murkey world of eBay when the wife goes to sleep....

Momentum Cobalt Lite? Full face lume, titanium construction, cheap enough to beat about and wear everyday even at your desk under a shirt cuff and £98 on Amazon at the moment. In fact, there are plenty of 'beater' watches within their range that look rugged enough to take a few hits from a cage and come out looking no worse for it.

If you keep your eyes open you can grab an skx007/9 on eBay at times from anything from 60 to 100.
..... I guess if you're lucky you could find a lot of watches that way...

Seiko SNK is a cool watch. Easily modded. Cheap at about 50 quid. The snxs79 too. Orient fem or cem, mako or bambino for a little more.

I don't think it's worth buying an 007 these days for anything other than historical curiosity: you could get a used Gen 2 Monster for about the same price, for example, which has a modern hacking and handwinding movement of considerably better quality than the 7S26. The 007 was a fine watch in its day, but that day is long gone.

The 007, though, looks nothing like the rather childish looking Monster...

I know which one I'd prefer.

In your opinion. The Monster is shiny and cheap looking in comparison to the 007 and doesn't satisfy the classic diver-look if that's what's required. I've owned three Monsters and would never have another whereas I know I'll own 007s and 009s a-plenty in the future.

Don't know. Have you tried Goldsmiths?

I thought it was clear I was speaking horologically. Looks are a matter of taste, obviously. Other 4R36 and 6R15-based watches are available...

I guess not as at least two of us thought you meant buy a Monster instead of a 007.

I think it may have been the specific mention of the Monster that 'threw' us

In terms of movement, I'm not sure there's a LOT in it and certainly, for most uses, not enough to warrant paying extra or living with an ugly watch

I'd also suggest something Seiko and second hand. Be it a monster or 007 etc :) Fantastic value for the money, and from what i've observed, should you ever get bored with it, you won't have a very hard time selling it for what you paid.

Or you can go even cheaper and, as suggested, get a seiko 5. Countless models to chose from, and can be had new for as little as £30. I've 3 of them, and think they're cracking value.

I don't get how they can sell any watch for 99p and make a profit?
That includes international postage and ebay/paypal fees. What's in it for them?

Does seem extraordinary, doesn't it, even with state-subsidised international postage.

It does - I (and at least one other person here) bought one at the now seemingly excessive price of £1.82, just to see if it would turn up at such a crazily cheap price, but it did and it worked and told the time (It's gathering dust in a drawer now, of course!), but I've no idea where the margin is at 99p!

    M.

PS Of course none of the pushers or sub-dials actually do anything, but, still, 99p!

What you meant to say then is that in your opinion the 7s26 movement has had its day.

Would that then mean that the 6105b, 6306a and 6309a movements have had their day? Which would be true, to an extent, yet they're still brilliant movements and wouldn't either way make me disregard these older models simply because the movements had since been updated. I guess it isn't obvious what your point is, bitfield. Apologies.

Well, there's still a place for it at the ultra-cheap end of the market: Seiko 5s, for example. But if you're paying £100, my point was simply that watches with better, more modern movements are available.

A Mako was going to be my suggestion too - I bought a Mako XL a year or so ago and it was only just over 100 quid. The Mako should be comfortably under.
