Good lord!
Well that puts the boxed Vostok that I found at the back of a draw that I had completely forgotten about into perspective
I would not call myself absent minded, but I have had a lot of watches over the years, bught, traded, sold etc. Some I have kept never to be sold and some just filling a gap until the next thing comes along. I was having a tidy up earlier today and sorting out some of the watch empty boxes making room for some storage.
I saw this box and knew more or less straight away what it was, although I had not seen this for 10 or 12 years. I was convinced that I had sold it or traded it for something else. My immediate thought was I have sold the watch and accidentally excluded the box from the sale. I naturally decided to look in the box
It is a typical 1980's looking box, not very well made, some of the grey plasticy coating is peeling away
Under the box is this beautiful book, not seen many of them before. All pages brand new condition, never really been read. I am trying to think who I sold it to, they would really appreciate me forwarding this on. I would need to check my records later
Usual Omega and moon watch pictures, plus the history of Omega
The warranty card from UK dealers in 1996, I bought it second hand in about 2002. I am thinking I have really let somebody down by not selling it with all of these things
Opened the grey box and yes you guessed it
I was convinced I had sold it. Being a bit stupid definitely has it's advantages.
It really is in mint condition. There is fluff on the crystal it's unmarked
Good lord!

If you can forget you have a pricey Omega, then this could be God's way of hinting that you may have too much money....
Great story and wonderful watch, but who forgets that they own a Speedmaster...
Just checked my watch storage place and nope, no lovely unexpected watch in there. I am disappointed.
I bet that made your day, will you get it serviced?
Excellent, I once found a fiver in the inside jacket of my suit pocket and felt like I'd won the lottery. I can't imagine he you feel.
Nice one.
Very nice find! Odd kind of fit on the end links though - are they original to the watch?
You did sell it to me! I have just remembered that I never received it and have totally forgot about it :)
I will PM you my address 😉
Made my day indeed, my middle daughter ran in wondering what all the shouting was about, and that made her day to see me acting like a big kid!
I have about 9 Omegas in my modest collection which include three Speedmasters. As this one was nothing significant i.e a 1968 or 69 model, not a cal.321, it did not hold as much appeal. Since I bought this when the recommended retail price of the Moon watch was around the £1400 mark, the second hand price was not a huge amount (for a Speedmaster). I am pretty certain that I will now be keeping this one. Like I said, stupidity has it's advantages.
Thanks for reminding me - I sold a Seiko SBDX001 to a buddy last year and still have the box, rubber strap, and original crystal. Actually seeing him tomorrow.
What a lovely story, you lucky sod.. I have been searching my house, but no unexpected valuable watches have been found yet...
Is the watch running ok?
What a lovely surprise, that's better than the £2.5k isa that got hidden and forgotten about due to an online banking mixup
Did the lume age while it was hidden away?
Watch is running fine but will get it serviced
I honestly cannot remember the state of the lume when I last saw it, but I like as it is
The 9 Omegas, a bit like this one were bought when prices of most watches were sensible. Rolex GMT master for instance in 1998, second hand was around £1700 to £1900 depending on condition, retail was £2250!
Modest is surely the wrong word, but hey what a find.......
Haha great stuff.
What a find, the ageing of the lume looks great.
It's lovely when you find something you lost, but finding something you forgot you still had - and a nice watch at that - must be cracking.
Wear it in good health.

We've all done the same. I was down the pub last night looking for a bird before I remembered that I've been happily married for the past fifteen years.
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.
At some point, we've all parked in the wrong garage.

I just checked. All my boxes are empty. Should I be happy or sad now? ;-)
Congrats!! You sure you checked all boxes now??

Great funny story!! My wife would never fall for that old story and would be adamant that I've brought another watch I don't need......
Wow must be the automotive equivalent of a barn find, a spare room find!!
Very nice indeed, fantastic lume you must be feeling very pleased with yourself.
Great story, made me smile.
Hah that's brilliant.
I bet being boxed and forgotten about is what made the lume go so lovely.
I, sometimes, find money in old clothing. Once, I found the equivalent of 2 pounds.
I once found a cheque in a jacket for £100 thought I won the jackpot until I saw the date it was over two years old, damn

Looks amazing! I was happy when I found the other half to a pair of socks I thought I lost.

Great story thanks for sharing.
I once found £20 in an envelope from when we got married 13 years ago
unfortunately it was an out of circulation note, but fortunately the bank of england still accepts them and credits your bank account automagicially...
that felt great, can't imagine what finding a speedy feels like, well like finding @£1500 quid rolled up in a sock I guess!
Is that the correct bracelet?
It looks a worse fit than the Alpha one I bought (and lots of people commented on being a dreadful fit )
Anyway, always nice to find something you forgot you had, especially something valuable and desirable...
Old newspapers rarely count (or jars of food now 6 years past their best before date).

If this was my house then it would have been thrown out years ago! SWMBO has a horrible habit of 'tidying cupboards' out when I'm not around. This means throwing anything away that she thinks isn't required. e.g. my EMPTY omega box that was thrown out 5 years ago :-(
I found an IWC Fliegerchrono in an old TAGHeuer box a few years back, it had been there for probably 5 years; do t know why I put it away in that box, I had dedicated watch cases? I always assumed a 'friend' or acquaintance had stolen it as my flat was a bit of a party house back then.
I was very happy to find it, so it can and does happen!
Amazing story! I lose count of the number of watches I still own but I've never found one I thought I'd sold!
The ageing of the lume must be time-related; the watch has been stored in a dark environment so that rules out the effects of light. The watch looks superb, although I'm in the minority who prefer the later luminova which doesn't seem to age at all.
Ideally, the watch needs checking on a timegrapher to see how it's running, but given the age it probably makes sense to get it serviced to refresh the lubrication. If the oil has gone dry (rather than sticky) it could give good amplitude whilst the balance pivots are running dry, which isn't good. My guess is that it'll run reasonably but the amplitude will be on the low side......... Best to get it serviced.

That was some surprise, barn find indeed
This must be one of the last tritium Speedies?
Loving the lume!
Bracelet is abhorrent though
Cheers
Probably be the best find of your life. Congrats!
