    New Explorer at M & W Manchester

If anyone is interested there is a new explorer in the window of Mappin and Webb in St Anne's Square Manchester. Just tried it on and a little too small for me but absolutely gorgeous. I know some people are finding it hard to get hold of one so thought I would post on here.

No. It is definitely the new one. I tried that and the exp 2 polar. I had a conversation with the young woman and actually told her that I was going to put a thread on the website. She was asking me about my Deepsea Blue and told me that they have only ever had two in. Not sure who you spoke to but they have given you incorrect information.

It seems like half the ADs don't even realise they've got the new model, possibly because it has the same reference number etc

really? That is a lot of ADs. Personally I tried some (4) ADs in the London region without success - they had the current model with silver arabic numerals. Eventually got a new one in Liecester. Still seem to be rare but i guess should be filtering through sometime.

Yep he did - lucky sod!

But my pedantic point, made only because there already seems to be so much confusion about what watch is where at the ADs, is that what Martyn calls the "current" - and means "2010-2016" - model, has solid white gold Arabic markers at 3/6/9. They're not silver.

But it's the *solid* part, rather than the material, that's important. The new "2016-" explorer 214270 also has white gold Arabic markers at 3/6/9, but these are now filled with lume and so look very different to that of the outgoing dial

I think the general point that everyone's aiming towards is something like "the new Exp one has lumed 3/6/9, the outgoing mode does not."

    FYI:

The new Explorer 39 model number is 214270-0003
The 2010-2016 Explorer 39 model number is 214270-0001

So just ask any AD for the full model number in case of doubt.

    Rolex genius

Take unloved model chip out some of the expensive white gold fill in with cheap lume, make hands a little longer, sell for the same price. Reuse applied arabics on new Airking, profit profit profit

    Brilliant

As if they are not making enough money already on a piece of stainless steel

If it was profit, profit, profit they would have increased the price. Good for Rolex for keeping the same book value compared to the 'old' model. Anyway I can see this thread is degrading as seems the norm these days. I for one think they now have a great model more in line with its heritage . Those who like the white gold Arabic can still buy those ones.

    Cheers

    Martyn

I too think it is a great watch, I own the previous version and prefer the solid white gold arabics, more pleasing to my eye.

And good for Rolex to correct the 'mistakes' on the current model, and yes it is profit, profit, profit, if you make the 'same' model for less but keep the price the same.

Oh, and the prices of all models is going up soon

I passed Mappin and Webb about 5ish and saw this Explorer in the window , looked superb !

I didn't have an issue with the previous the hands didn't bother me but the revised version has only been pipped by the 116500 on my Rolex want list.

I called them again and they tell me it is the old model and they won't get the new model until October, confirmed by their instore "Rolex manager". I asked if they could tell me the full model number but this led nowhere as she insisted it was the old model.
Either the people posting here that they have seen it don't know what they are looking at, or the people who are selling them have no idea what they are looking at.
In the absence of pictures I give up and will just have to wait on them arriving locally (and suffer a price rise likely)

Absolutely bonkers. I started the thread and take it from me it was the new one. I was in there a good half an hour and had a play with the explorer, explorer 2 polar and the white datajust 2. Not sure what is going on there.......

This reminds me of the time I was trying to get a sales person on the phone to confirm if a Planet Ocean they had in stock was a 2500 or 2500D.

Banging my head against a wall

Spotted this last Wednesday. Wasn't too sure if it was the old or new one.

They are still few and far between at the moment, and judging from this thread keeping the same model no. is not helping matters in locating where new ones have appeared.

I am going to look at one at weekend - but AD doesn't know if it's the old or new model. Find this a little strange

I'd even consider traveling from Scotland if I knew an AD had the new model, but it sounds quite hit-and-miss. I do prefer the luminous numbers (more balanced) and longer hand, I must admit.

I wonder what happened to the 214270-002, a hybrid / prototype? Solid arabics but with full length hands maybe?

The one at Mapping & Webb Manchester has gone as I enquired about it on Monday.
