    Speeding -aagghhhh

I received today a notice for doing 87 mph in a 70 (dual carriageway). I was going too fast and I accept that I was not being responsible.

Any idea of points / fines etc in Scotland . Just want to brace myself ?

Not to condemn or condone, but for advice on road traffic offences visit the guys at pepipoo.com. Great resource.

I got nabbed doing 84 on the A9 at Dunblane a few years ago and got 3 points and the standard fine, which I think was £60 at the time.

If it a NIP and they're asking you to confirm you were the driver, the next step is the "offer" from them. I doubt it'll be draconian but I guess it all depends any extenuating circumstances. It would be hard to prove any other offence from a static van, other than VERY excessive speed.

They don't do speed awareness courses in Scotland afaik. Fine and points is the only option.

Well all I can say is that it's a good job that bicycles can't go that fast.

But if nothing else this should provide some light relief.

I got pulled coming through Forfar at warp factor 6 in the late 80,s. Had to slow down to give the police a chance to catch me
Instant ban. Which was well deserved.

Very unlikely you'll get a speed awareness course in Scotland

They'll only let you do the course once in (I think) three years. Get caught again or be above their upper threshold and it's still points and a fine!

Not sure they offer speed awareness courses up here, I certainly wasn't offered and had to take my points and fine!

3 points and £100 fine - if there were no aggravating factors (weather, road conditions etc)

No SAC in Scotland - saves wasting 4 hours of your life!!

  23. #23
Yep , as the others have said ....standard 3 points and £100 fine.

I got pulled over last year on the M90 at 89mph ... Traffic cop was cool .

He said ....." Wow ..lovely car ..beautiful ! ...has it cruise control ?"

    I said ...Yes

He said ...you wanna try using that !!!

First and only speeding fine in 25 years..........there is no excuse , but my excuse was having just got off a flight from Germany , having done a few hours at high speed on the autobahn.

After accelerating enthusiastically away from the lights one night in one of my more performance-oriented cars, I saw a lovely Evo pull alongside. In police livery.

The rather attractive young Police Lady wound down the window and said "Is that yours?" "I sheepishly replied in the affirmative, to which she responded "Well stop driving like a dick" and drove away.

Can't say fairer than that really.

Sorry but driving at 87 mph is selfish and irresponsible and if natural justice were to be done, you would be banned for a bloody long time.

The chances are 3 points and a £100 fine at the most and that is why idiots continue to carry on driving dangerously.

Our roads are over crowded and removing dangerous people from the road leaving more road for safer drivers has got to be a good thing.

Got "gunned" just before xmas, 47 in a 40.

Was coming out of a local recycling centre (tip) and accelerated from the 40 to national speed limit too early, "gunner" was behind a hedge in a Waitrose car park! Thanks you get for recycling! 😡

Awareness course booked for the end of the month. 😕

I think telling your insurance company is entirely up to you since they can't actually check if you've been caught and gone on an educational course.

I used to drive lots of fast cars very fast and now take my pleasure from driving slow cars fast. You don't get your kicks in an MX-5 from its acceleration or top speed but with the addition of decent tyres, brakes and uprated dampers (currently having Meister Rs fitted to mine) you can have a hell of a lot of fun without breaking the speed limit*.

This is probably the answer, although I'm not sure what to:

    https://topgearuk.wordpress.com/2010...lski-fiat-126/

    * by very much. An NA or NB MX-5 isn't much fun above about 100.

    It is

My other fun car is a 4x4 ragtop which I usually drive top down with the 300 days/year sun here. No fun either going fast.

Foxy is totally correct, going slowly sideways is the inherently safer way to freude am fahren.
