Not drinking this stuff tonight, in fact, I wont be drinking it again. With a name like that I should have known, it was actually vile.

I wouldn't recommend the Dogfish head 120 minutes then .It's 18% alcohol and intensely bitter

No way can there be anything more horrid tasting than that foul brew I had the misfortune of sampling. NO WAY !!

Franziskaner this evening. I prefer Schneider Weiss but it's a bit more difficult to procure here.

After a week of work-imposed abstinence it's my turn for some tasty beers. First up is this magnificent Yorkshire ale. Probably the finest they make, IMHO. Cheers!

So far for me this evening it's been the following:

Not a great beer though be honest, but I am not much of a fan of Wheat beers

A very drinkable beer with an interesting floral afternote.

A quite nice brew but unremarkable.

    Nectar

    Cheers

I have not tried it, I will keep a look out.
I do have a case of Beavertown Smog Rocket in the beer fridge. That's a good stout.

I had a Guinness last night - Unusual for me, but the Doombar was off.

It was pretty smooth, but seemed rather free from flavour - Have they changed it? I've a feeling this may have been 'extra cold', does that make a difference?

I had a pint of Elgood Coolship Dark (https://www.ratebeer.com/beer/elgood...p-dark/316438/) last night at The Understudy - good craft beer pub at the National Theatre and right on the river at Southbank. It, the beer, is a bit of an acquired taste - very sour. My mates were impressed I managed to finish it. This description from the link is about spot on "A deep purple brown colour with a medium beige head. Aroma of sour red grapes, vinegar, some fig, maybe cherry, slight funk, a little chocolate and subtle leather. Taste of sour red grapes, dark fruits, some leather, slight chocolate, a hint of vinegar and subtle wood. Medium bodied and a slick texture. A dry, tangy and sour, red fruit finish. Red wine and vinegar on the nose but in the taste, the flavours come together well. Something different." Not sure I would go for it again tbh but never had a sour beer before.

The quality of Guinness served is extremely variable - a good pint of it is noticeable. A lot of the time, it's slightly dead or a bit too metallic or lacking in character. Chances are it was the establishment not storing and/or serving it well.

IMO a good pint of Guinness is smooth and has a slight roasted / toasted flavour but it does not pack the punch of an IPA or a best bitter.
When you get a bad pint it's awful, strong bitter / coffee flavour or the taste of iron that is similar to licking a 2p coin. Not nice at all. It's all in the head, you can normally judge a pint on the colour consistency and longevity of the head before you even taste it.
Draft Gunniess has a totally different flavour to the original in a bottle.

Guinness is my pint of choice in pubs that serve nothing but euro P1ss

I enjoy the Goose Island offerings, and I get a selection sent through the post every month from Beer52....which i tend to drink within the first 2 nights of receipt.
Some I liked, some I did not, but I have no real idea which ones as I did not complete any tasting notes...!!!
My wife enjoys many of the labels though.

B&M Bargains are selling off cases of Goose Island at 75p per bottle. Must have been an Xmas over order. Shipley still have a pallet or so left

For ale drinkers I can thoroughly recommend St Peters Brewery from Bungay in Suffolk.

I'm having a Golden Ale as I type this. The Ruby Red is also excellent.

Should anyone find themselves in London, I recommend the Jerusalem Tavern in Clerkenwell. It's their only pub in town and a fantastic boozer.

Re M&S they do some great beers brewed by Adnams etc. Citra by Oakham is a great drop, the single hope stuff is fantastic.

I got diagnosed with coeliacs disease at 18, so have missed out on the joys of 'proper beer', and now have to tolerate gluten free beer which is basically mop bucket water

Any other coeliacs on the forum? Whats your favourite GF beer? Mine has to be Daura GF.

Just been diagnosed at the age of 49
I’m missing a good beer, but out here in Aus I’ve tried Wilde and O’Briens which are passable and Glutenberg (from the US) which was drinkable. Also tried a German one which was horrible.

Marks and Spencer do a range of light ales brewed by a number of brewery's around the country. My favourite is Citra ipa, brewed by Oakham Ales, Cambridgeshire.
It has a citrus aroma and is very refreshing.

Good to see that this post has caught the imagination (and the beer drinking arm) of the TZ community. For those of us who have regular enforced abstinence due to work Oncall cover, I can recommend something else produced by St Peters brewery.

Found some Carling Premier at the Co-op tonight! I didn't know it had been relaunched, I used to drink it in the 90s when I was a student and wanted to treat myself. Its pretty similar to what I remember, although I used to drink it on draft, rather than from a can, thick creamy head, and nice and smooth. Much better than normal Carling, and a change from my usual Budvar, Birra Moretti bottles etc.

Believe it or not, a bottle of Blandford Flyer that I was given for Christmas. It is flavoured with ginger; not as bad as you might think.

    0% Bavaria from Sainsbury's

Actually, it's not that bad. I'm having three days a week off booze so I've been trying all sorts. Budweiser 0% isn't too bad either. Tomorrow evening can't come quick enough though

I do one week of Oncall cover every month and the Bavaria is not a bad substitute for real beer when you can't drink. I have an extensive range of teas and coffees to get me through the week. The first real beer on a Friday night tastes wonderful.

Another + for St Peters, however please don't judge them on their "without" range, It just doesn't work. Also whilst there are many fine bottled ales now, to go to a cosy pub and share a pint or two with friends is what beer is all about. Last night Mighty Oak Oscar Wilde mild, superb.Cheers, John B4
