Lovely, Mark - I like the Monster a lot, and still feel rather lustful towards the 821 Stealth despite loving my Street Triple.

How did it ride with the clip-ons?

Clip-ons vastly improved the handling a lot Tony, made it a lot more 'planted'. Also one important mod that further transformed the handling was taking it to DWR in Aylesbury, Dave would size up the rider and in my case simply put thicker fork oil and that further improved the front end. A very cheap mod in the end!

The M600 was replaced by a M1000 which although was more powerful obviously, the 600 was more fun I''m certain I've got some pics of the M1000 somewhere, I'll try and dig 'em out.

    Cheers!

    Bar end mirrors

Thought I’d update this thread with my latest mod....

I’ve never been happy with the Xdiavel bars, too high, and too wide, and look a bit crappy.. I discovered that the new Diavel 1260 uses exactly the same switch gear and on sitting on one in the showroom the bars were much more to my liking, so I ordered a set, expecting them to be a straight swap.... well they weren’t quite a straight swap so I had to modify a few bits to make them fit...

The bars themselves are different in that they’re lower, narrower, and as I discovered much thicker tubing.

The outside diameter is the same, but inside is smaller so bar ends from the X won’t fit directly into the new bars

Bars fitted and all switchgear in place

    Xdiavel bars ID 17mm

    1260 bars ID 14mm

This meant the brass wedges wouldn’t fit

So I turned them down to fit the new bars

    And ended up with this

Now the problem is that my free bar end mirrors off my mates Thruxton won’t fit the Ducati bar ends.. Now I could easily turn down the Ducati bar ends, but they’re steel so I’d have to paint them, or I could use a set of alloy bar ends that I had sitting on the shelf which are perfect OD for the Triumph mirrors but don’t fit the Ducati bars.

The solution, turn down the original Ducati bar end, and fit it inside the alloy ones.

Anyway, the end result is that I now have bar end mirrors and bar end weights that fit and look pretty damn good... just need to do the other side now

Got an 821 a few months ago and it’s a fantastic bike, put over 1000 miles on her in a couple of months. Limited mods apart from full titanium system, engine remap to sort out low speed fuelling and a K&N filter. This has transformed the bike with added bonus it now makes about 90 horsepower.

Other mods are the shorter tail tidy and comfort seat make this, imo a very good looking and useable bike.

Nice job Enoch; good to see you’re wearing your Rolex whilst doing the work!

I really need to get myself a lathe and milling machine!

I never quite got on with the Z750 Turbo, probably because I don't ride flat out all the time.

The engine was flat unless the engine was already under load and the turbo was spooled up. Overtaking up hill was a breeze, but open the throttle cruising down hill and nothing.

Preparing for overtakes I got into the habit of trailing the rear brake to get the engine to work harder to get the turbo going to avoid the lag.

    Still a great experience though

There was a few turbos around that time non really succeeded,I remember reading about the lag but never rode one.
I believe you where better of with a bigger engine rather than a turbo, glad they did it though.

My friends an ex ASM he’s refurbished some Nissin 4 pots and replaced my OEM 6 pot Tokicos for me.
They have much better feel and less maintenance in the long run.

The bike I bought last year needing no work for which I paid a premium, has needed more work than any bike I’ve had in a long time.

My fault I trusted and didn’t check.

Honda CX650T, Yamaha XJ650T, Suzuki XN85 and Kawasaki GPz750T were all available at around the same time. The Kawasaki was far and away the best of the four although the Honda wasn’t too bad. The Yam and Suzi are best forgotten.

    It’s looking good Enoch.

Are you going to remove the paintwork before welding then powder coat or paint it all the one colour?

I’ve actually removed the paint where the welds are needed.... I tried to remove just enough to get the job done...

Then I’m going to use a brush to etch prime, and paint satin black just where needed...

This will have to do for now, and then come winter I’ll get them, and a few other bits powder coated.👍👍

    That's an awesome job.

The Street Scrambler is going in for Givi brackets at my local fabricators, but that's more function than form (and I already have the Givi boxes).

I'll only put them on for touring and stick to the Triumph rugged pannier for day to day.

Nice job Enoch, it looks like a factory fit.

Given that it’s actually better than the factory option, perhaps they’d be interested in using your design!

  20. #20
What are you going to put in your panniers?

    In mine i usually have;

    a few tools
    a puncture repair kit
    some string
a ferry ticket from 11 years ago
    cable ties
    a falafel
spare Rizlas (silver, all stuck together)
    a road map of Croydon
a mucky DVD found at the roadside in Holland
    an `Acme thunderer` whistle
    one spare glove
....and a heavy stone i found in a field which i thought was a meteorite but turned out to be a lump of slag.

Well today I took a load of full sharps boxes back to the hospital for disposal, and picked up fresh medical supplies in them....

It was great not having to try and find somewhere to park the car👍

I'm going to stick with lovely, but only because whilst it's wonderfully done, and the brakes and Allspeeds are perfect, there are a couple of bits that don't work for me.

But they don't have to work for me so it doesn't matter :-)

To be fair I have one bit that doesn’t work for me, too.

Nice one goat, the looks of the original R80Gs with all the modern day bells whistles AND performance. They are a bit tall for me , thats why I stick with a low chassis F700gs. Enjoy

    More mods

    Been spending money this week.

I’ve ordered triumph scrambler multi function lights, British legends tail tidy (which will be modified) a small tail light/numberplate light..

My plan is to fit the multi function lights to the tail tidy, and mount the rear light above, then I’m gonna wire them so that the multifunctions provide stop lamps and indicators, and the small tail lamp is just a tail lamp and number plate illumination, although there is the option to make this a brake light as well, I’ll see if it detracts from the other brake lights before I do this...

Then best of all, I’ve just got off the phone with Adrian from Canyon motorcycles, and have ordered a set of lightweight 40 spoke alloy wheels in denim black with bronze spokes.... 3.5”x16 front, and 4.25x16 rear, complete with new Avon Cobra tyres

    I’m gonna be busy

I don’t like indicators, especially the giant chrome plated plastic eyesores that were originally on the bike so replaced with these nearly invisible ( when off ) LED motogadget items.

Lee, Is the yellow coating on the headlamp lens a yellow film or painted? How does it effect the light output. Im thinking of modifying my yellow monkey bike like that as it looks really smart and I rarely ride at night.

    Hello Steve

It’s a film I put on, doesn’t seem to lessen the brightness and during the day it seems to catch the attention of motorists a lot more

Yes.... it’s just advertised as a child’s novelty plate... mine’s 7x5 completely illegal as I’m sure you’re aware (£100 fine)

But it’s been on 10 months, and 6k miles, and not had an issue, including an X5 patrol car sitting directly behind me at a set of lights for a few minutes...

I was convinced he was gonna pull me over, but no, followed me for a couple of miles then he turned off...

I already have a legal yellow one for when I need it..

    Adding a bit of bling

Added some Roland Sands Ducati accessories to the Xdiavel today...

    Fuel cap

    Frame plugs and sprocket cover

New oil filter cap to replace the cheapest crappiest cap you’ve ever seen

    Then onto the Triumph..

    New headlight bezel

    From this

    To this

Then I also got hold of a nice new leather magnetic tank pouch, just right for camera, phone wallet etc, clips to your belt when not in use

Looking good as usual Enoch. The Roland Sands stuff is really nice, I thought about some bits for my Diavel but swapped the bike instead.
