    Which watch for first date.

So guys I’m going on my first date since my divorce. So of course I’m wondering which watch I should wear.

I’m deciding from below. So for a bit of fun, which would you choose for going out for a drink?

    Submariner Date
    Date just 41
    Explorer
    Planet Ocean
    Speedmaster
    Raymond Weil dress

    Depends where you're going/what you're wearing, surely?

    Good luck, though

Unless you met your date on this forum, not sure it matters.

All the best, hope it goes well.

Surely better to suggest you're an explorer than a speedmaster...?

I'd say the Raymond Weil, but if you do wear one of the other ones - don't draw attention to it, or talk about it.

When I went for the first date since ending a relationship, I wore my MKii Vantage as it was the most unassuming piece in my then collection. I’d therefore go with the Explorer from your list. Best of luck fella!

Depends what she already knows about you. You don't want to look like a bum or a flash t**t. And she doesn't even need to be a watch nerd to know of Rolex, how she interprets that name on her wrist is down to her.

    Speedie.

Whatever you like and you're comfortable with. Hopefully you won't spend the evening staring at it anyway.

    Good luck!

Good luck, I’d go with the dress watch, or the Explorer on black leather.

Wear the sub and spend the entire date talking about wait lists, Chromalight lume, COSC specs, and how “AkChewELY, James Bond wore a Rolex”. The loins will melt before the first course is finished.

    Lol.

… and if she turns round and says if you read the books you’d know it was an Explorer you’ve pulled.

Speedmaster. It looks like a normal, handsome watch to those that know nothing about watches.

Yet, it is also unique enough to be a talking point if the subject moves onto your interests.

For the love of all that is holy, DO NOT allow a Speedmaster to become a talking point on a first date.

She'll call her pals afterwards "I'm sure he's a nice guy but what a f**king dork, went on about astronauts and how his watch was on the moon. Won't be seeing that one again. Didn't even look at my t*ts once."

I would suggest that whilst folk on watch forums think that every non watch person would recognise a Rolex, I think that is incorrect.

Just wear the Explorer. It is the nicest of the watches you have mentioned.

You don't think she'll be able to recognise the name?

    First date?

I wouldn't worry about the watch.

Plenty of other stuff to worry about.

Most people don’t have sufficiently good eyesight to read a brand name on a dial at a distance of more than a few feet.

    Which watch for first date.

Speedie. Classy. Versatile. Not too flashy.

I’m sure the date won’t hinge on the watch, good luck!

If you have and use one, and it’s not a 51mm, I’d be tempted by a Garmin or equivalent. More likely to convey a positive impression ie you’re keep yourself fit, than a potentially off-putting bauble on the wrist.

Option 2: get yourself a PRS-25 as a first date watch. Explorer, but with a safe name. And dare I say it, an interesting WIS talking point should one ever be needed

Buy / wear a cheap Casio, in case you move onto prenups. Best of luck !

Don't wear a Rolex as it may put her off and make her think you might be a bit of a knob. I'd wear the Speedy personally.

Unless she's Chinese/Thai/Korean in which case wear a Rolex.

If your first date happens to be on a train you should wear the Omega, but be aware that things could get complicated later.

    Which watch for first date.

Explorer if you want to explore her.

Jokes aside well done on getting through a divorce and with such a decent collection.

Sub, explorer or speedmaster for me so long as they’re on a bracelet and not accessorised with those awful midlife crisis friendship bracelet things which seem to be getting popular with the 50+ guys

Don't wear one, has to be the best option. If your watch choice is important to her you can show her next time

All being well she is normal and doesn't care for such metallic nonsense like we all do.

Don't wear one. Concentrate on her and being your genuine self. She might like you. If she does, ask this question for the second date. Jesus...amateurs ;).

The cynic in me thinks that if you must wear a Rolex on that date(Good luck by the way!), assuming you know nothing/very little about her, firstly check out her footwear, if she is wearing trainers/running shoes and looks a speedy type, after the meal is finished, do NOT let her hold or try the Rolex on or you run the risk of a empty wrist, the bill to pay and a fast receding view of her arse as she speeds to the horizon!

On my first date with my wife - we’ve now been married 28 years - she apparently noticed my Submariner (bought aged 19 with my first bonus from work - I think it was slightly less than a months wages at the time) - and tells me she thought ‘he must be successful for a young man and hasn’t even mentioned his watch or what car he drives which is a relief’ - obviously did the trick!

Wear whatever makes you feel good - if you feel good, you will come across well.

Also, a mechanical watch is a statement of sorts in 2024: i.e. I'm concentrating on you, not on the latest notification on my smartwatch... It's also a potential topic of conversation, but as others have said - just don't geek out.

If you choose a Rolex, and they notice, and gush - well, you've learned something: they're a materialist who's totting up what you're potentially worth. Whether that's a good thing or not will depend on your own personality and wants...

    Have fun
