    Am I being too picky?

I bought a new leather strap for my watch and here it is:

As you can see there are some tiny marks on the strap itself. Would this bother you if you bought a new strap? Worth contacting and asking for a replacement?

To me, that looks like a scratch that has gone through the colouring.
    I wouldn't accept it.

    Unless I’m mistaken.
It looks like you have accepted it and fitted it to your watch.

It wasn't fitted by me, it was done at the shop. It is actually still there. I told them to hold onto it as I am unsure about keeping that strap and don't want them to think that I caused the damage if I came back later and changed my mind.

    Understood.
Some people are going to say reject it.
Others are going to say live with it.

Then some more might say. Negotiate a discount.

The thing with a strap is that it’s inevitably going to pick up lots of scratches as soon as you start wearing it - so if it were me I’d ask for a modest discount and take it.

Does the shop have a letterbox?

I’ve never damaged a leather watch strap like that in daily wear. It looks like something has really dug into the leather - I’d reject it

I'm not sure...it's not something that I really notice.

It's very much personal preference. For me, I wouldn't view that as a new strap and I would reject it. I accept that straps will mark with wear, but I'll be the one adding that wear; a new strap should be just that, new.

If it were a £30 strap I wouldn’t worry but it looks expensive and I’d return it.

Another vote for rejection and frankly I would be irritated that the shop even offered me the strap in that condition.

I think you should have an open discussion with the supplier and see if you can come to a mutual agreement.

They might be able to come up with a nice solution for everyone involved.

I would check the lugs too when you get the watch back. Some chance that the shop caused that damage with their tool. Sorry!
Regarding the strap, I am a little fussy about things like this, so I definitely wouldn't stand for it, as above though depends on price. Assume this is £100+

Had similar myself. On a sub-£30 strap, I'd live with it. For something higher grade, I'd be looking for it to be right.

I'd probably point it out as you've not taken delivery.

As you've asked, I guess you should too.

I suspect some cack handed assistant has put it down on something when fitting the strap. I also suspect that Ive bought cheaper leather sofas in the past than that strap costs. I would definitely insist on a replacement in perfect condition.

Request a new one, you did the right thing giving yourself time.

Or ask for a discount as you will probably scratch it.

To me it doesn't seem deep, if so I'd likely not be too fussed, but then it looks like the watch is a gold dress watch, not a rough and tumble diver (mostly what I wear) so it isn't unreasonable that you want a perfect strap. If it's damage and you aren't happy then say so.
