    AP have lost the plot

    Seriously what’s the point ?

ok I know most of only play around with the chronograph function and time the occasional egg boiling but this is ridiculous.

Question is who designed them? The first pic is the new official AP but the second two are from 2021 by a guy who was an AP AD at the time and made his own version.

I could have designed that, or if I didn't bother, who'd know?

Obviously it'll sell like hot cakes.

I think the point is I HAVE MONEY TO BURN AND LOTS OF IT, basically that's what it screams to me.

I think it would look better with the chrono buttons but without the 'subdial' hands - less cluttered at least.

Once you accept that expensive watches are jewellery that sometimes also serve a useful function but not always the more relaxed you will be.

    I really like them.
Minimalism combined with brutalism is right up my alley.

I love it. Of course there are other, similar, at various price points, and it's great to see AP joining in. It shows the pointlessness of it all. Do you really use the chrono? DO YOU REALLY? Do 'Tona wearers really take off the watch and unscrew the pushers to time an egg?
    Costume jewellery. Ouch!!!

    Best Regards - Peter

I'd hate to be with you when you're on your own.

Yeah it’s definitely not for me, which probably means it will quadruple in price

All it needs is a marvel character on the dial and it'd be the perfect watch.

    I'd nominate The Phone Ranger.

What AP says themselves is quite true.

Its all about showing how rich you are.

Obviously the chronograph hands are surplus to requirements, but I’ve always loved a vertically brushed dial so have to admit I quite like the ‘basic’ version, it makes a change from the usual AP dial. That is, in a fantasy world where you could actually wear it anywhere.

Is the 1017 ALX SM present on the actual watch? In the instagram photos it looks like it's not there, which imo, is much better.

I'm surprised they even bothered with any hands at all ... surely whichever muppet buys this will be using his diamond encrusted smartphone to tell him the time anyway ... or will employ someone to do it for him !

It’s different and maybe it is a show of conspicuous wealth, impractical, but so are in a parallel many high performance cars. Thinking cayman gt4 which is one of the most frustrating cars to drive well. Most Ferraris I would say are quite impractical especially the limited editions, La Ferrari being one that comes to mind . But that’s surely not the point…watches when you get to the Rolex price point and above are considered luxury Jewelry that just so happen to tell the time . I personally really like it it I do agree it’s not every ones cup of tea.

Kind of odd, but I don't think anyone has lost the plot as this is a fashion money grab. Alyx did a few unofficial, customised APs a few years ago which are selling for 80k, so obviously AP wanted some of that and now they are doing an official version. Not for me, but then I am probably at least 10 years older than Alyx's target audience.

More interesting to me is that the head of Alyx was recently made the creative director of Givenchy, which is owned by LVMH who also own what I would consider AP's main contemporary competitor, Hublot. So I think this collaboration is an interesting move from multiple perspectives.
