    Fitted Wardrobes - Ikea?

Been pestered by Mrs K to get some new wardrobes and looking at Ikea range. Look reasonable but are there alternatives out there anyone could recommend?

After an off the shelf DIY solution, not really made to measure.

For off the shelf stuff you will be pretty hard pushed to beat IKEA price wise, especially if you live fairly close to one

Yours furnished near Stansted airport are very good, but normally more upmarket

For price vs quality you're not likely to do any better - specialist bedroom furniture companies might be better but cost a LOT more.

You can improve the quality of the install substantially by assembling them using wood glue at seams and dowels, use a spirit level to ensure they are attached to each other and installed level, and making sure they are attached using a batten instead of using the supplied fixings direct into the wall.

Plan carefully and buy only the minimum you know you need. It's no problem to go grab extra shelves etc if you need them afterwards.

This - looked at various options for my daughters' bedrooms and ended up going with Ikea PAX wardrobes - they are modular and available in various heights and widths, so you can plan the build to suit the space you have. As above, using wood glue and better fixings hugely improves the quality of the install. Spent pretty much the entire Easter long weekend building these but really pleased with the results and a huge improvement over free standing furniture (given the space limitations).

Ikea also have a 365 day returns policy, so if you do buy a few bits that you don't use (especially internals, which is easy to do), then it's no problem to return for a refund.

Thanks everyone, esp. for the tips - looks like Ikea it is!

Might try and sneak in a nice mitre saw I'll obviously need for the project...

We bought some of these this year, custom designed and delivered and I fitted them. They are excellent.

They offer a fitting service but they are easy to fit if you can use a drill, screwdriver and spirit level.

If you're handy you can get something more or less as good as a bespoke install with the IKEA stuff.

    Basically what these guys do

Will be loads of folks showing off their skills on YouTube etc to give you some ideas

IKEA stuff is pretty decent and as cheap as you will get
My suggestion is buy wardrobes as high as will fit in and buy a spare robe to box it in at the top
Mine have been in at least 10 years and started out as oak colour but I remodelled them and kept the carcass
Fix them back to the wall and they’re going nowhere

IKEA is great but not all of the door designs will work in all decors. Our new build is more traditional so we had to go the bespoke route. Roughly double the price in our case
