Thread: Chinos

    Chinos

Can anyone recommend a maker of Chinos who doesn't insist on including a stretch element to the fabric ? Dockers were my go to brand but now they include elastane which makes the damn things a bit stretchy, I just want 100% construction.
    Thanks for any insights.

Gap chinos always worked for me and have bought many pairs for work in the past.

Quality has been fine and price is good.

Don't buy them any more as since Covid I go to work in jeans, as work etiquette is more relaxed these days

Oliver Spencer fishtail chinos are pure cotton - good but pricey:

Every pair of chinos I have ever had had have been 100% cotton. I don’t think that is a standout feature.

I thought that was what the OP was asking for? Lots of chinos have lycra or elastane added.

Anyway Oliver Spencer make very nicely cut trousers. Even better when they are on sale!

Surprisingly I get mine from primark.
Ten quid a pair, lots of colours.

I bought a pair of Dockers mail order which had the stretch which made my legs look like a condom stuffed with walnuts, so swiftly returned.

Lands End are my current daily wearer and go tos, have a couple of pairs which are excellent.

Was a Dockers enthusiast until the bloody stretchy constituent was added, your description is just how I felt wearing the dreadful things. Will try the Lands End suggestion, so thanks. Recently asked in a chaps clothes shop whether a y non stretch trews were available and was told that the stretchy things were popular as they fitted a wider ,if you like, customer base. I commented " that's cheating, in my book" and took my business elsewhere, but failed to find unstretchy chinos.

Brax, Everest style are my go to trousers for spring-summer. Really good quality and, importantly, cut. £50 if you can get them in a sale.

Dickies work pants. The 872s are slim straight leg with a slight taper. 873 are slim straight. 874 are straight leg so really wide at the hem.

Not a whiff of any stretch material with these. They are a polyester/cotton mix. Which sounds horrible but they are really hard wearing and don't get that creased bag of washing look that the 100% cotton ones do. They are like selvedge denim in that you need to break them in so don't worry about how stuff they are at first.

I "spoke" to them a bit ago but having seen their latest ad, I really can't imagine sporting their trews. But , thanks for the hint.

As I have some other Harkila bits for shooting, I decided to try a paid of their Trousers for work. Although not the cheapest, they are very good quality.

Have a look at Harkila Norberg Chinos.

3% elastane ,so hardly 100% cotton, as per my initial enquiry.

I prefer a less slim cut with elastane as the knees don’t stretch out as much after sitting. Hate a skinny fit chino, as cannot have anything in pockets.

Might have to revisit dockers as left them behind due to a lack of stretch, although rarely wear them these days vs denim but do like to dress it up occasionally.

Yet to find a blue pair that don’t look rubbish with creasing after a few washes though.

Not a bad time to revisit as there’s a decent enough sale on.

Forget the length. Have you seen their prices?

Have you seen how they’re made and the quality of materials including the over looked parts like the pocket bags, zips and buttons.

    Buy right or buy twice

I have used that excuse many times. I am not sure it works on off-the-shelf chinos. But we all choose to spend differently.

Wouldn’t mind one or two if they’re *that good* but certainly wouldn’t stock the wardrobe with them or wear to work. Cant beat blue harbour chinos for work. Hope they’re still £29.50 and there’s a 20% Sparks offer the next time I need some.

Don’t get quality clothing confused with ‘designer’ clothing. Both cost the same but only one is worth the asking price
