    Cliché watch photo backgrounds ...

Seems that watch photos are now falling into a very certain style.

    Background should now include:

    - maps
    - knifes
    - camera gear
    - compass
    - logo/keys of a high end German sports car
    - sunglasses (bonus point for RayBan aviators)
    - Fountain pen

    What have I missed???

A cuff needs to be partially covering the dial.

My fairly basic watch photography efforts mostly fall into the map cliche, but the maps I use are personal to me, because they are a dust sheet made of cloth maps of the Sudan, maps which my grandfather effectively drew as one of the main surveyors that mapped the country.

One can also add cliche themes (water for a diver, space for a Speedie), and also well worn wabi items, whether they be boots, rucksack or travel case.

Great story, also a very nice Eterna.

I agree they are a bit of a cliché, but isn't that because they do look rather good? Some things just work well together in the frame.

On top of a fence post seems a popular option especially if you are selling the watch.

The toilet was popular for a while here as were a members wife’s boobs.

Both more entertaining than a steering wheel

We should start a thread for "watch + random object" photos where all of those, as well as the other items mentioned in posts above, are banned. Might make for some more original images.

I remember a photo composition of a watch, leaf and a fox turd from some years back?

It's very much en vogue these days to have a background of some technical drawings or equations.

Not so prevalent on TZ-UK. Probably because many of the Porsche owners manage to tell everyone they have a Porsche in threads, where there is no need to do so.

I am with you on the wine and watches. Helps to convey you are not a wage slave who has to work for a living. Nothing more boring than a wrist shot with a desk or keyboard.

A lack of Rolex outdoors pics indicates that the investors don’t like to wear one outside of the house.

    Crikey!

Is this is what happens when you go to buy a watch in a darkened pub and accidentally have a second half pint?

    Asking for a friend.

That awful hackneyed hand partially in the pocket (selvedge of course! ) flashing the watch is beyond the pale IMO.

A dog is a popular option, especially with a ‘Will you stop pissing about with that watch and throw the bloody ball’ look on their little faces.

This can be the new theme. An upgrade from the nappy shot last week.

It always used to make me cringe when the watch was sat on something abrasive like a rock, or on the sand.
Likewise, any photo that includes feet or (even worse) toes. Yuck!

Not forgetting a wrist shot with a whole load of wrist bands and beads etc around the watch.

Very bohemian, in a cool dude sort of way. Might look good on a young hipster, but an aging balding fat bloke, less so.

Those prices are definitely a tad ambitious, throwing in a replica box and booklet and some Curta merch doesn't double the value.

At the lower end of the spectrum, how about circular slide rules?

Or at the upper end, vacuum tube computers?

Well, it seems to me that w*****s who drive Porsches all seem to be determined to take photographs of their watches (on their wrists) directly in front of the brand logo that is mounted at the centre of the steering wheel.

What about the nice guys that drive Porsches and take photographs of their watches (on their wrists) directly in front of the brand logo that is mounted at the centre of the steering wheel? There must be some?

We don’t have the everyday carry pictures including fire arms in the UK.
Nothing says I am ready for the day like a picture of a Rolex Submariner a tactical pen carbon fibre money clip and a Glock 19

I recall a period where a bottle of scotch whisky was often involved in the background.

    Typically something highly peated.
