    Longines Hydroconquest.

    Hi all
Like the above in black, 43 or 44mm.
Pricing is good at the moment, generally the 44 is slightly cheaper.
Can anyone tell me the difference between these two please?

    Longines Hydroconquest.

The difference is one is Automatic and the other is Quartz, other than that nothing except they are both 44mm.
The seconds pointers are the tell, the one with a small heart shape at the end is automatic.
Only the newer model with the ceramic Bezel is 43mm plus only in automatic version.

Ohh and you can get them in 41mm as well.

£200 more gets you the automatic variant.

I do like Longines... growing up they are were always what I considered a big huge brand.
They did timing on sports events etc.

A good looking watch.. for the £200 I would definitely go with the automatic. I always think quartz should be much less in price.

The ones linked-to are (I believe) the last of the previous generation models, and should be findable at a decent discount, or if you don't mind buying used, then someone else will have taken the depreciation.

The newer generation are a mixed bag of designs, and available in a bewildering rannge of sizes - 32, 39, 41, 43 and 44mm last time I looked!

Never owned one, but would like to try one at some point.

How did I not notice one was quartz, that’s what rushing to post before going out does.
As for discount, the ones above are the cheapest I can find

There is a decent newer version here for a fair price, it's used but still has around 4 year's warranty remaining.

I wish they’d ditch the excessive crown guards and weird looking crown for something more restrained.

I'm with you on that, those two features curbed any interest I might have had.

Wonder if they’ll release an updated version following the new case and design for the GMT Hydroconquest

It’s a nice watch, I’ve owned the Blue one before and the fact you now get a 5 year warranty is great.
    Enjoy it

I came close to buying a Hydroconquest so many times! I must have tried them on in the shops about a dozen times. 40 or 42mm would have been ok. The 44mm I decided was too big for me, and then they stopped making the one with the 1 to 12 dial markings. In the end I decided that the 6-9-12 dial was just too "shouty" for my personal taste.
Good watches but I moved on.

I like the one I have, but truth be told I only bought it as it's the Commonwealth Games edition which was last held in Birmingham. Watch is certainly very legible etc, but I find the crown is horrible to use due to the ridge.

Does the ridge on the crown have a purpose or is is just a design detail? Something about is has always put me off buying one of these - just looks odd imho

I've always assumed it was to make pulling the crown out easier, but haven't handled one to know if it's actually useful.

Very similar crown as fitted to the Zenith Rainbow Flyback.
Not convinced it's to make the crown pull out easier though.

I’ve had at least 2 , maybe 3 of these before,

As has been mentioned, the crown guards can make winding setting time etc,a bit of a pain if you are crack handed like me! Otherwise, they are great value for money watches.

I have the Blue bimetal quartz Hydroconquest as my grab & go, great watch & a strong brand. However a few people on various forums have commented on the lack of micro adjustment on the bracelet, its either a tad too loose or a tad too tight. I would suggest if you are buying new ask the AD to size the bracelet for you before you leave, to make sure you are happy with the way it fits. Other than that, lovely watches, good luck with your search.

I’ve had a couple of the smaller cased models. They’re solidly impressive but ultimately too blingy / shouty for me.
