Cool. One up on the Railmaster and the so-called Ingenieur (are any of them antimagnetic any more?).

Been following this thread with interest, any ideas on release date and price (presume on a strap it be around the £300 mark). Regular production version or LE.

That would be my choice too but I feel the 39mm will be sapphire and the 36mm will be the acrylic.

You are so right, somebody should read the spec again.

Not of any great consequence, but shouldn't a Smiths watch be marked be ENGLAND? Not that I would especially want to exclude the Welsh and the Scots but as we are specifically excluding the Irish it seems only fair and historically accurate.

Sounds perfect to me - I'll be after the 39mm and would prefer acrylic. Will this be the shoulderless bars and drilled lugs ( sorry, getting a little confused now! ) ?

I'll definitely be having one of these, but I'd be hard pressed to choose between the "authentic" and "updated" specs. Both appeal. I suspect I'll go for the 39/sapphire variant when the time comes.

I'm supposing the 36mm will be lower priced than the 39, considering the larger case/sapphire etc?

I tend to think that you may be supposing correctly... makes it easier for us indecisive punters to buy both and make up our minds as to which one we actually prefer later

    Re: Size of Smiths W10

The cost of the double dome sapphire crystal is a little more than the cost of a bracelet, so the 39mm version will probably be around the same price as one of my watches with a bracelet. The 36mm should be the cost of the sapphire crystal cheaper than the 39mm.

This is what I would expect but don't guarantee it.

Would plump for the 40mm as 1st choice then the 38mm.

As per the original pictures. However, presumably it couldn't say "made in" which makes "England" a problem - being only one word - it would have to be split to fit around the 6 marker, which would possibly (?) look quite ugly.

Correct. I did look at getting cases made and having it assembled in England so I could legitimately mark it "Made In England" but that meant bringing components together from several sources and hoping that it all went together as it should. In the end it proved too difficult. Besides, Smiths also marked some of their watches "Made In Great Britain", I think it was the ones made in the Welsh factory.

Maybe you could make a saltire dial version with "Scaw'lin ya bastards" in wee writing either side of the 6.

Definitely. And for the Scots export market, to paraphrase Michael McIntyre you could engrave "We don't need any o' your English bastard watches" on the back :)
...but what do I know; I don't even like watches!

Really looking forward to this and tempted to get both even though my preference would be for the 36mm version.

Could you give us a little hint about a likely release date, Eddie?

Am I right in thinking neither variant will be a limited special?

Or do we need to start the unseemly rush to bag serial numbers, like we did in the old days?
