Travel, Business, Formal, Casual & Swimming...........................seems to fit the bill every time!
Hello All,
I was asked this the other day and wondered what decision watch forum members would make. I am not talking of your ''ultimate'' £200,000+ watch. I am talking concerning if you could only have one watch, that would be suitable for swimming, casual, business and evening wear, which watch would you choose to wear and why?
Kindest Regards
Warren

Seadweller or Submariner end of.

I have a Rolex Submariner [no date] which has been worn in the water, it's natural habitat! with shorts, lounge suit, dinner suit. It has never felt out of place, I would deem it to be suitable for any occasion I can think of. 8)
Another equally suitable watch from the Rolex stable, is the original Explorer beautifully understated. :P
This. Owned it from new in '84, worn for everything from firefighting to suited and booted at my club.
F.T.F.A.
I don't do occasions.
Every watch can be worn all the time.
Cheers,
Daddel.
Got a new watch, divers watch it is, had to drown the bastard to get it!
 firefighting, probably last on the list of thing Rolex had in mind for the watchOriginally Posted by magirus
I'd either go for a Rolex Sea Dweller (1200m not the ridiculous one), an IWC Ingenuir or a Seiko SBDX001
Speedmaster Pro - because you just never know when you'll end up having to go into Space...
Another vote for Submariner here. Took my Sub Date on hols last week, and it was great for swimming (yes! in water!!!), playing with the lad, and out at the restaurants.
seamaster,
One watch to rule them all? ....
Then this one:

you can go swimming with the Speedy Pro, it depends on you how deep you want to take it :lol:Originally Posted by andy tims
as suggested before, Seamaster or SD
both very versatile
IWC 3536...perfect!
I've taken mine to the bottom of the local municipal pool - deep end and everything! It was fine, but I couldn't get the water out of my ears all day.
Yes but what about the watch :lol:Originally Posted by notenoughwrists
"One watch" - I'm afraid I don't understand that concept ???????
If it was just the one, then I guess I would plump for the one I've just sold - a Sub Date.
I would say any Rolex Oyster fits the bill.
(PS FWIW I would never take a Speedy Pro into the 'drink', which is why mine ended up going - with two exceptions (both dressy and on leather), all my watches can happily be used for any form of waters sports, and this was a flaw of the Speedy IMO as a go anywhere, do anything watch (but, then again that's not what is was intended to do).
for me its got to be the sea dweller its got it all and can be worn for any occasion .
I don't do occasions, either. Discreet, unassuming and runs at +1s/day whatever I do.
Only one? :? Well for me either a Seamaster Planet Ocean 42mm or Seamaster Pro 2254.50 - both look good with a suit, can be worn on bracelet or NATO, aren't too large or blingy, are robust diver's watches and heck even Daniel Craig uses a PO when he's wearing a tux in the Bond movies - great all round watches.
Cheers
Steve
My Rollie Sub w/ date without a doubt for my 'one' watch. Although I would also consider my Doxa 5000T. Sporty, dressy, classy and a bit blingy..... imho of course!
Seamaster GMT on bracelet.
.
Wearability on all occasions & no HEV

I do agree with the majority here suggesting the Rolex SD & Subs fit the bill perfectly but I would also add the Omega Planet Ocean which falls equally well in with these.
All that said, where on earth is the fun in only having "one"......and more to the point is that even possible? Cant see it catching on as an idea myself!
One watch? Strange idea to get my head round
Rolex-wise, vintage 5513
Realistically though, because of possible water damage to the 5513,
GP seahawk II, 300m version 43mm SS on bracelet. :bounce:

Respect the past, live the present, protect the future
PRS 17 - tough, handsome & rare.....
Cheers :)
Any sober looking El Primero ... partly because it has a non-ETA movement.

"Well they would say that ... wouldn't they!"
Personally i'd go down the Rolex Sport route, but would go with a ceramic GMT, for the additional travel function. Also a bit flashier for the "dressing up" issue. I don't own one though, because I'm not restricted to one watch. Thank the Lord.

jupp, the seadweller will do it for me to, im currently looking for a unpolished one whit lumi dial and luggholes, cant wait

Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra 2500 calibre for me:
...although I'd be quite partial to a Sub too...

If You are on a budget, I would definetely go for the one of the Knights from Seiko - great finish, elegant and still a diver´s watch :P
I would say a Rolex Sub having owned one as my only watch for the last couple of months. It has hardly moved from my wrist in that time.
It is being moved on to make way for something else though.
Dave
I have to say Rolex seem to be one of the few watches that can genuinely carry of every look and wearability option.
This one - 3536-03, classy enough for suit, sporty for recreational.
Pete aka ObiWan
Sub ND.
Surprised nobody has said Explorer 1 or Explorer II, the latter you can add 'going on holiday and knowing the time at home' to your list of occasions.
It'd have to be ....the SD :)
Wore it exclusively for 5 years before I discovered watch collecting....oh, the innocence of owning just the ONE good watch
Having owned a Sub Date and been a tad underwhelmed, I'd go for one of Eddie's:
Looks good under a shirt cuff, and can be easily swaped onto the divers rubber strap for a more casual look & for swimming too. This watch has attracted more comments from friends & strangers alike, than any other watch I've owned.
Rollie GMTII
Well I think this should have a look in. It looks great for any occasion and is slim enough for formal shirt wear - my choice (on it's bracelet)
Rod
Have to be this one for me.
Beautiful... Alternatively, the Master Compressor Geographic on a braceletOriginally Posted by Scottishtrunkmonkey
