Omega Railmaster 38mm.
What is the best watch for a girl who's 6 foot tall and does not necessarily have the very narrowest of wrists?
That said, my wrist is not that chunky either.
Among the watches I do like are Phillipe Patek, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Omega and Louis Vuitton.
Any opinions on these?

Rolex Air King or Explorer 1.
By the way, welcome.
By the way did you know that you are a member of a very small and select group on this forum? Not because you are a female, not because you are 6 feet tall, but because you apparently know how to use apostrophes correctly. :)
Any Nomos. True unisex watches and fabulous value for an in-house completely European manufacture.
Here's mine, i'm 6' 5".
If you could access the sales corner there is a perfect Tangomat knocking around.
Welcome to the forum, a lot of the supermodels are wearing vintage Rolex....if it's good enough for them?
The trollop wears a 5513 Submariner and a Cartier 100 galbee Santos, both gents watches.
BTW Is this a spelling bee or a watch forum?

My gal loves the one with Mickey and his big black ears..... Disney i think the brand is..... :P
Victoria, if you can run to a Phillipe Patek, then that's where I would go. You could even take a look at the Nautilis if you didnt fancy their more dressy versions.
Good luck!

welcome victoria
i recently got my g/f a chanel j12 in white ceramic, its 37mm so a decent size, my g/f is 5`10" and about 6 half " wrists. looks great on her

Thank you all for the welcome hello...
There are some very nice suggestions and I will note them though before I am able to buy either new or second hand I need to sell my current stock! :-)
The Phillipe Patek model I like is the white one currently in magazine ads.
Jaeger-LeCoultre - I have always thought looked very smart and I like the dual time designs they have, but they are a tough expensive.
Omega... I do like the planet ocean.... its a shame that whilst they make a smaller Seamaster (not a pretty face), they do not miniaturize the PO.
And Louis Vuitton... hmmmm, well i think they have a few nice designs and it does not have to have a diving bezel though i do find that a useful feature even though I will probably never scuba dive... but its good for timing cooking!
As for rolex.... 2nd hand Rolex are as expensive as new so thats definitely out of my league though they are pretty.
The Nomos is very nice, thank you for that suggestion.
I think that my option, whichever it is needs to be water resistant first of all.
Hi Victoria and welcome
An obvious possibility is a JLC Reverso. Why? Because there are 3 basic sizes, ladies' mid-size, and men's. Try them all and make your choice.
My wife is about 5'2", and among other watches, a mid-sized Reverso, and Rolex Datejust, (34 mm). Come to think of it, Datejusts are also available in 3 sizes, 34mm, 36mm and the newer 42mm (?), although Rolex is not in your list.
You may, of course, need more than one!
Good luck with whatever you select, and regards
It's all a matter of personal taste and budget really - you need to try a few on and you'll know which one is right for you.
If you're trying to avoid the dainty or blingy look of a lot of ladies watches, I'd be tempted to go for something like a Rolex Submariner (non date). A tall lady I know wears one and it looks great on her. Good ones tend to come up on the forum regularly and you might get one for less than the price of a new Planet Ocean. The PO does come in two sizes - so the smaller 42mm may suit you - again they come up on the sales corner section here fairly often at a good price.
Good luck with your search and welcome to the forum.
theres a very nice mens mid size cartier tank auto on sc, that would be very nice on a lady i think
Few things sexier than a bird wearing a blokes watch, so Rolex Submariner
One which a nice lady finds desirable.
Best wishes,
Bob
PS Of all the watches I've offered my wife, the one she most likes is a Mondaine. (And I think that she is a nice lady. :))

But should the term more correctly be " lady's " rather than " ladies' " ? Surely " ladies " (plural) have "watches" (plural). And we normally talk about a man's watch and men's watches - rather than a " mens' " or " men's " watch.Originally Posted by Panofsky
Comments welcome.
Regarding watch choice please bear in mind that ladies' watches generally depreciate much faster than gents' so by acquiring a gent's watch (man's watch) you would probably lose less if ever you wished to sell or PX. A JLC Reverso or Patek would be good choices and mint examples can normally be purchased from specialist dealers at good discounts compared to buying from authorized dealers.

EDIT: I've amended "mens' watches" to read "men's watches" ... so easy to make mistakes with apostrophes
"Well they would say that ... wouldn't they!"
Same issue recently.
Pointed my wife towards Gladders Air King on SC but then went to try on some at AD to gauge whether she would be fine for the 34mm size.
Resulted in purchase of Air King with 'correct' pink indices on dial. Classic with a bit of a stereotypical girly twist
More expensive, but she is happier with the overall outcome.
I'm waiting for the Vanguard.......wonder if that will be the Smiths in January???
Dunk, I think you may have something in this regard and my mother would give you a big thank you - her favorite book is "Eats shoots and leaves" !!! (Make of that what you will). She is always commenting in the direction of Radio4 presenters that their language is deteriorating.Originally Posted by sundial
So should it be "What's a nice lady's watch?" ? :-)
There are so many watches that I am going to have to look up.
Again Dunk, I understand the issue of ladies' (lady's ??) watches loosing value quickly ... the problem is not all men's watches work well on my wrist! I guess I am either looking for someting which is ultimately a ladies' watch (such as the Phillipe Patek) or something very androgynous such as the louis Vuitton.Originally Posted by sundial

Hi Victoria, if used a Rolex and JLC are too expensive I fear the Patek will be well out of reach.Originally Posted by Victoria C
The ceramic Chanel J12 is worth a look but still around the cost of a used Rolex Submariner.
Rolex Daytona's are a preferred choice of celebs such as Lindsay Lohan and Jennifer Aniston, again pricey at around 6k. Cheaper watches with a similar look are available from Rotary and Alpha.
Tag Heuer do a good range of lady's watches. I've seen an ad with Maria Sharapova wearing a white monaco which is quite a large piece.

Hi Vicky, Your mother is correct regarding Radio 4 presenters' deteriorating language.Originally Posted by Victoria C

Whatever you decide to buy, please post a picture including a wrist shot.
I'll check out "Eats Shoots and Leaves" next time I'm in Foyles; it seems to be a fun book.

mine seems to like whats-his-face le crois. compared to some these dont seem to break the bank - so she is up to 3 so far.
Hi Vicky, Have you considered a Rolex Cellini model? They are expensive new, but on the used market can be purchased for half the new price and sometimes less depending on whether box and papers are included. Some men's Cellini models are very elegant and could suit a lady's wrist. Details here http://www.rolex.com/en/index.jsp#/en/x ... lini/index . Rolex still make a Cellini Quartz model.
And here is one I bought myself secondhand
And this is a Cellini I sold on TZ UK SC for approx £1K ie less than one third the new RRP - and the buyer purchased it for a lady:

The rectangular Cellini is quite nice I suppose but the gold one doesn't do it for me at all.
Tudor mini-sub maybe?
If you like rectangular watches there are several JLC Reverso models in several sizes which might appeal to you - and they can be purchased 'used' in mint condition for reasonable prices.Originally Posted by Victoria C
Another rectangular watch which might appeal is the Cartier Basculante

Cartier Tank Francaise. A true ladies classic, sexy and effortlessly stylish
If you want a small man's watch, I`d go for a second-hand 34mm Rolex. Buy at the right price and it won`t lose money. They really are sheer class with a timeless 'classic' design.

I think the explorer makes a fantastic watch and sizewise is great - the daytona / any sub looks great for a bit of oversize - I notice lots of models are wearing Daytona's and Subs these days.
I don't go much for dress watches but the early Aqua-terra co-axials are fantastic - should have kept mine - but it wasn't the 41mm version - so had to go really.
It's just a matter of time...
Hi Vicky, There are some secondhand Cartier watches listed here http://rgwatches.co.uk/page_1186397053578.html including two Basculante models but I'm not sure what the case material is ie if they are steel or plated. I've not dealt with RG Watches previously.
