I wont comment on anything to do with the bickering, however the Walt in the original post is absolutely pathetic.
How sad must a guy be to buy medals and pass them off as his own ?

I left the Army in 2002 and would never think to spin a yarn as there will always be someone out there who will shoot you down in flames. On the flip side of the Walt coin there is a lad on my platform who is ex-RAF and kept himself to himself for the first year or so. He found out I served in Aldergrove and we started to have a bit of a craic. From the conversations we have had I believe he was part of14 Int, however not once has he blown smoke up his own arse and its the odd snippet here or there that leads me to that conclusion.

Most who have served will know they have, they will also just let it go until the time and place is appropriate. Usually when a few jars have been consumed.

I'm looking at his collection of medals and Im reminded that my mine are still in a Jiffy bag.

MUCH more interesting! :) Gas plug & piston or receiver-cover, bolt and carrier first? Where was the cleaning kit kept?

    Mike.

gas plug and piston out first disasembly
    and in last on reasembly

    reason being
the weapon will fire without it so you could keep cocking and fireing if attacked

paras in the falklands set the gas regulater to max so as to avoid stoppages, nearly broke their shoulder blades with the recoil mind

He takes the piss out of everyone who has ever served in the army, shame on him.

    I didn't know this though!:

...section 197 of the Army Act 1955... makes wearing decorations without authority a criminal offence...

It certainly fitted in the butt-hole... I preferred to keep mine in an old tobacco tin in bottom of a kidney pouch.

Obviously, Royal Marines kept theirs in their Butt-Hole in case a sailor wanted to use it.

About 12 years ago I worked with a gruff old Yorkshireman who was as hard as nails and ran is site crews with a rod of iron. He was full of stories about his past exploits in far flung hotspots of the 1950's & 60's.

We all thought he was a class A bullshitter.

Fast forward to the end of last year when he died after a long illness. We attended his funeral, buried with full military honours, coffin on a gun carriage, volley fired over the grave, etc, and the wildest wake with a bar full of old, hard, grizzled Para's, full of stories of past exploits in far flung hotspots.......... :)
