The episode I referred to earlier was about 3 years ago, and I reckon 1.52s on a stock CBR600FX 10 years ago isn't too shabby considering the old D207, Mez1 or BT56 type rubber available in the day... legend also has it the track was a bit bumpier in those days.

Incidentally, the Superbike lap record is now in the 1.29s, and MotoGP down in the 1.27s... while Randy Mamola gets round on the demonstration Desmosedicci in around 1.38 ... and that's in the damp with a pillion while popping wheelies and near highsiding all the way round!

Red Steve wrote "Having been on two wheels for 30 years, in my experience is all down to training, experience and putting in the miles, not about the machine. I did a course with the Avon & Somerset bike guys a few years back. All riding their fully kitted BM's. Left everyone else standing....and yes they encouraged us to keep up if we could. Lots of Power Rangers that day I can tell you."

    Couldn't agree more!
Last September I booked myself a days advanced bike training using a firm called Rapid Training.
The Hi-Viz Sam-Browne wearing instructor showing us the ropes was on an elderly BMW R80RT, with skinny tyres, panniers the works.....and when he chose to do so he left me and the other student on the course standing  !
As Red Stev wrote, it's not about the machine and this retired gents lines through the twisty bits were superb, he always seemed to be in the right place, in the right gear and with time-a-plenty to make some outrageous overtakes safely and with time to spare. Talk about "making progress!"
I had a great day out, clocked up 200 plus miles on a wide variety of roads and felt my riding and reading of the road improved hugely...thoroughly recommended. :)

    Im feeling the Gixxer love......

Apart from the Can I think the new Gixxers look pretty cool....I personally prefer the older less angular SRAD versions though, like my bumble bee below :)
Never ridden the 750 so cant comment about power/fun ratio

Well if it's Gixxer Saturday, here's the one and only I ever bought for myself. This was taken way back in the day (around '92ish I reckon, and pre digital... I've just had to scan it  ), but at least mine was a blue & white Mr. Gamma :P.

And stop sniggering at my kit... stuff like that was all the rage don't you know... :D

I actually had a bit of a spill on that bike, and I was only TPF&T at the time (young and daft I suppose, and a useful lesson in its own right), so I bodged it back to road worthy and sold it soon after...

...so I'll wager the balance of probabilities is in my favour.

Lovely looking bit of kit. I have a Aprilia Tuono, but I've always had a soft spot for the Gixxer 750's
