This is a perfect example of the success of Rolex's advertising. To many people, uneducated in matters horological, Rolex is the pinnacle of watchmaking, the only source of anything better than average.
To his mind (and their are others like him) if his watch uses a battery that is better than any battery he has seen before, say a ten-year lithium vs a three-year silver oxide, the only place capable of making such a fine battery must be "Rolex."
Do not scorn him, pity him, he knows no better (and is probably unwilling to become better educated on the matter.)
(We all know some people, from all the different fields of knowledge, that think this way.)
