The Best of 2009...? What's yours?

Hi, I saw this posted on another forum and thought it would be good here also.

    The questions are:

    What is;

    * The best watch that you added to your collection this year

    * the best bargain of the year

    * the best event or get-together that you attended

    * the best reference or resource that you enjoyed

    * the best things that you learned during the year

    * the best photograph that you took or saw

    * the best discussion that you enjoyed on this (or another) forum.

    Ok, I'll start:

    * the best watch that you added to your collection this year:

    Damasko DC56

    * the best bargain of the year:

Has to be this Heuer 1000M

    * the best event or get-together that you attended:

The ATG Bristol GTG where Bremont were showing off their wares

    * the best reference or resource that you enjoyed

All forums (including this one ;)) that have military watch sections. Very interesting reading.

    * the best things that you learned during the year

    To be more patient!

    * the best photograph that you took or saw, or

This one I took on Weston beach:

    * the best discussion that you enjoyed on this (or another) forum.

Announcing that me and Mrs Sparky are expecting. Could have shouted it from the rooftops.

    Over to you!

    Mark

The following watches have come and gone in 2009

    Bell&Ross BR02
    Sinn 142
    Omega Seamaster GMT
    Omega Seamaster Bond
    Precista PRS 3 LE
    Tag Heuer Aquaracer Chronotimer
    Zinex Nitrox
    Seiko SKX 007
    Seiko Black Bullet SKXA53

All these were great watches but of those that came in during 2009, 2 watches remain
Zinex trimix GMT pepsi Ltd Edition, absolutely beautiful big tool watch- the best addition this year

and Omega Seamaster Black Bond Quartz. This watch has reminded me that auto movements isn't the be all and end all. My Bargain of the year

    * The best watch that you added to your collection this year - tough one, narrowly going for a 1967 Accutron Astronaut in superb condition

    * the best bargain of the year - Glycine Airman SST06 brand new with a hefty discount (cheers Chris!)

    * the best event or get-together that you attended - Southampton GTG/North Weald GTG with the Bremont lads

    * the best reference or resource that you enjoyed - Tz-UK of course!

    * the best things that you learned during the year - watch wise, don't put a box of hummers next to your ear at night and expect to get any sleep :D

    * the best photograph that you took or saw - the one that springs to mind (mainly because its been blown up into a poster for my son) was Took's photo of the Harrier on the low flying loop in Wales (thanks again for the use of it Ian)

However,i have an instant affection for this one of Weston-Super-Mare 'cause i was born there and took 21 years to escape. This shot is particularly noteworthy because you can see the sea!

However there are obviously loads of great photos that appear here....

    * the best discussion that you enjoyed on this (or another) forum. -too many to mention

that pic brings back fond memories, it was on the beach at weston i threw a large hot steak and kidney pie quite hard at the back of the missus's head, after the initial suprise she calmly wiped the bits of pie and hot gravy from her neck and carried on her conversation with her sister refusing to lower herself to my vulgar chav level. i learnt a lot that day and we were married soon after.

    * The best watch that you added to your collection this year - vintage Doxa SUB300T - Thanks David! :thumbleft:

    * the best bargain of the year - Casio DW5000 (Spike Lee)

    * the best event or get-together that you attended - JonW's GTG in London (boys night out before his wedding) for the great company and ATG Vintage Watches / Bremont in Bristol for pure watch porn

    * the best reference or resource that you enjoyed - buying a copy of "Omega - A Journey Through Time"

    * the best things that you learned during the year - I'm NOT a 'collector' of watches - who did i think I was I kidding!!!

    * the best photograph that you took or saw - keeping it clean and related to my own watches i guess i would be this one of my referbished Omega Chronoquartz. I lusted after one of these for ages then once It arrived it brought me to my senses and thus I no longer wish to collect watches but to buy ones that I will wear without fear of damage.

    * the best discussion that you enjoyed on this (or another) forum. "Has anyone ever met Eddie Flats?"

Re: The Best of 2009...? What's yours?

All the below thoughts from an unashamedly narrow Rolex perspective ..............

    * The best watch that you added to your collection this year

I think this meters first 5513 takes the prize, following a busy year on the 5513 front

    * the best bargain of the year

Ladies 1938 rolex oyster, all original, found in a Kendal antique shop for less than £100, my wife will eventually come round to liking it

    * the best event or get-together that you attended

Missed the Southport GTG, which was a blow, so apart from that just enjoying my watches on a personal basis  . Bring on the Morecambe/Lancaster/South Lakes GTG next year :P

    * the best reference or resource that you enjoyed

VintageRolexForum - a great "live" Rolex specific resource as you could find, some belting arguments & fallouts as well

    * the best things that you learned during the year

If you wait, the watch you really want will eventually come along

    * the best photograph that you took or saw

I like my Tudor snowflake subs one, but eclipsed by any from Mike Wood (the content that is, not the photography skills obviously  )

    * the best discussion that you enjoyed on this (or another) forum.

    What is;

    * The best watch that you added to your collection this year IWC 3536 Ti

    * the best bargain of the year Breitling Spatiographe in great condition with papers from a reputable seller for a cheaper price than some more dodgy ones on ebay or chrono24

    * the best reference or resource that you enjoyed This forum, by far

    * the best things that you learned during the year The watch you're looking for always comes along at some point, so don't pay a ridiculous price, buy a "similar" watch or deal with a less than perfect seller.

    * The best watch that you added to your collection this year - GPs are great VFM...

    * the best bargain of the year - Cheap n cheerful Omegas that no-one wants... I wear this quite often...

    * the best event or get-together that you attended - Like Stu (Cheers mate) I really enjoyed the GTG we had in London (a boys night out before my wedding) for the great company. A superb evening but Rich, Stu and I sat on the side of the road like (more that like, we were) 3 drunks chatting til the early hours is a priceless memory for me. :)

    * the best reference or resource that you enjoyed - I enjoyed working with Foz to create PloProf.com (thanks again David) but I cant really use that can I? hmm... probably the forums (the good ones like this one that is)

    * the best things that you learned during the year - Well I got married... so does 'yes dear' count? Ok, I learnt I like LED watches... who knew?!

    * the best photograph that you took or saw - Benthos 500... just love these watches....

    * the best discussion that you enjoyed on this (or another) forum. hmm not easy, but I think some of the GO and Anonimo threads on here rank up there
