Holly is now RIP thanks to some car driving wanker. The Zen household is anything but today.

Funny how an animal can affect your life in such a profound way. And anyone who says "just a cat" or they "don't have personalities like dogs do" is talking shit.

Mrs Zen and I are gutted.

Ps We live in the back of beyond (rural Somerset) so doubly unlucky.

I buried her earlier and I don't mind admitting to crying. In fact I cried last year at an Uncles funeral, and today. Before that I can't recall shedding a tear for anything much. She slept on our bed every night without fail, it's going to be a tough week.

    Sorry to hear that.

We have a bit of range of ages, from 4 months to 10 years - 5 resident and one skipped off to one of her many homes around the corner

Sorry to hear that. Tough losing a loved one (relation or pet), doubly so in such circumstances. Our King Charles Cavalier died young last year, and I cried a lot - like you, the last time I remember crying before that was when my Mum died 20 years ago. Sure I'll shed a tear when our cat goes (now 18).

I hope time is a healer for you, and that you can find a suitable replacement for Holly.

very sorry to read about this - they were both v cute as kittens & you must be gutted to lose her.. I had a rescue cat run over in March last year that I'd only had for 6 weeks, and I still get upset when I think about it. I live on a narrow, quiet road but you still get the odd car going too fast - plus she might have got spooked and dashed out. Even though it was the end for 'Little Ginge' it meant I was able to offer a home to Felix, and that the rescue place could take in another stray... You are absolutely right about their personalities - they are all very different..

As a person who always has a cat around him and who has also suffered this sort of loss, I really feel for you and know exactly how hard it is. I've cried many a tear losing some of mine over the years. They can be such giving members of a household that their going always creates a huge hole and more especially when it's untimely. ... Enzo will be glad of the love from you and Mrs Zen too, he must be suffering badly as well ...

    My best wishes to all...

I am so sorry to hear that. As a kid (about 8yrs old) I had twin kittens, Bill and Ben.

We lost Bill after about the same timeframe, and same reason.

But take heart, we had Ben for at least 17 more years and he is one of my fondest childhood memories. Slept on my feet in bed from a tiny kitten and for many years after. He was a whopper of a cat, 1.5stone I think at max (not just a fat boy though - he was a country cat and would bring down rabbits!). He ended up diabetic, but was so loved, my seemingly Victorian stepdad (never showed too much emotion) went to the lengths of caring for him for a very long time, giving him regular injections etc. and giving him a quality of life right to the end, returning the compliment of a long time served as an awesome buddy to all of us.

He used to walk with me the mile or so across the fields to my primary school, and occasionally turn up mid-morning on his own and stalk the corridors meowing (soooo loudly, it was comic) until someone spotted him, usually the headmaster as it was always his office corridor, and came to find me. I'd have to walk him part way home and that seemed to satisfy him, he'd bugger off on his own then.

Just rescued a young stray this Xmas - Cody Kitten is now tearing up the backs of my hands with some ruff and tumble and chasing my 7yr old's ankles around the house. Great creatures, and they can have so much character.

    Chin up, bud.

So sorry to hear this, hope you, the family and Enzo can remember the good times and accept the early demise over time. My thoughts be with you.
