Brilliant username mate :D
See what £70 gets you at Argos soon! I think I may have found my new beater.
I had a Rotary elite 200m which was a Panerai homage and it was pretty good value, the leather strap was really good quality.
Brilliant username mate :D
Now - why did you have to do that?
One now reserved at my local store!
Hm. Looks rather good. Will be interested to hear what the quality is like...
Very pretty piece... 70m water resistance? Hmmm... :?
Well, my local store in Leeds has this so I'm off in to have a look !
One of my mates went shoplifting in Argos last week. He got a catalogue and a couple of pens.

and a bigger pic for anyone interested...
not for me, but for 70 quid :P
Weird; as soon as I opened this thread Argos set a cookie on my machine. Must be the direct link to the photo.
Anyone know the name of the watch or model number? I have had a look on the rotary website and cant seem to find it?
It sure looks good, found this ebay auction (think it΄s the same watch) with some irl pictures. Not sure if it΄s my cup of tea but might bid on it...

Does the outer knurled bezel rotate like a Breitling? I ask because I assume the un-Breitling-like additional crown at 10 o'clock rotates the under crystal slide rule.
Also, is the 24H register a chronograph hour tabulator, or is it a Lemania 5100-like unadjustable 24H indicator following the standard set time, or else perhaps is it an adjustable 24H GMT register?
And, does anybody know what kind of crystal this uses?
Looks very nice for 70 GBP.
Thanks in advance.

Every watch a story.
looks great for £70, in fact I think the strap is probably worth half that.
I still wear the Pulsar chrono for knocking about the house though I wanted the green dial version so sourced it elsewhere.Originally Posted by abraxas

Hi fellas
The watch is called a Chronospeed.
I bought one today for a bit of curiosity value.
It's very acceptable for £70 imho.
I will take some pics of watch, box & destructions & post a few words if anyone
can keep the pi$$ taking to a low roar :D
More to come.

Hey, there have been watches featured on here costing five figures that deserved mocking far more than any watch bought from Argos.
Agreed :)Originally Posted by Glamdring

They do seem to look ok - interested to hear what you think of them 'in the flesh' :D and what's the lens made of?

Glad you volunteered. The rest of us want to know all about it the easy and cheap way(it's even cheaper than 70 pounds + shipping our way) :D
It does look like a nice watch for the cost, though. I'd particularly like to know what you think about Rotary's seemingly absolute confidence in its "Dolfin" WR standard that they apparently go so far as to describe their so-rated models "Waterproof" instead of the usual "Water Resistant" that is standard current practice across the modern watch industry.
Given your admirable experience based skepticism of some of the technological WR methods and means used by the watch industry as to their respective abilities to always reliably prevent the ingress of moisture to the watch's interior under all conditions, as clearly expressed in your previous post on the subject, I for one would value your opinion on Rotary's "Dolfin" claims after trying out the watch.
Any pictures of this one yet in the flesh, I am tempted
I wasn't aware that Rotary did this - thanks for sharing. What would be the water resistance equivalent of 70m waterproof, or is that a silly question? If I can keep this watch on when I go swimming (on a different strap of course), then it is looking an even better purchase than it did before.
The deep end of the swimming pool at least, I'd have thought.
Hi Gents
Taken some quick pics.( sorry about quality & may retake a couple later)
Nice box. :)
Nicely packaged.
The all important contents.
The watch itself from variou angles.
Personal observations
The finish is above what you expect for £200 plus, never mind £70 GBP.
The chronograph pushers feel a little dead to the touch so not much spring loading
in the pusher buttons.
They function well though.
The crown is screw down & feels postive in use with good detent for time & date setting once unscrewed.
I like the 24 hour counter that is the rh dial inset.
The inset circular slide rule operates from the top left hand hand side wheel.
This turns the inset slide rule dial clock wise & counter clockwise & is smooth in operation.
The finish is acceptable to watch casing.
It looks like plating imho.
The strap is comfortable but may be a snug fit for big wrists.
It only just fits me with one notch on the strap to spare.
My wrist is 7.5 inchs or 188mm around.
The water resistance.....Hmmmm
Splash around all you like for the first year.
I would be carefully checking the watch via pressure test after this.
The strap is totally unsuitable for anything other than splashes around the
sink imho.
Call it how you like.
It looks like a Navitimer to the Casual observer.
I would suggest that this watch is bought for looks, not how good it does any particular
task.
I like it & think its worth the money :)
I hope this helps.
Cheers
Jac
Useful info that - thanks :)
I think I feel a ChaviTimer moment coming on............................Damm you guys, I've succumbed :)
That's four watches expected this month now :-)
Are you sure that is not called tadpole :DOriginally Posted by Glamdring
Thanks for the pics and views Jac. :)
Certainly a looker, wherever those looks might be derived from...
Cheers,
Guy :)
I succumbed too - I am now a ChaviTimerOwner!
Superb for the money; I agree with the comments on the chrono pushers though.
Logun1(Jac),
Thanks for the review and pictures. Out of curiousity(it's a nice looking watch), I had several questions to ask if you don't mind:
1.)Is there anything special you can see about the WR sealing of the pushers/crown/back/crystal, etc., that would in your opinion justify Rotary's apparently absolute or near absolute claims of immunity from the ingress of moisture under its "Dolfin" WR Standard?
2.)Does this watch's owner's manual have any caveats as regards the watch's 70meter WR rating or does the OM encourage owners to do anything they like as regards water as long as they dive no deeper than 70 meters?
3.)As regards your evaluation Jac, and yours also MAW, of this watch's chronograph pusher buttons, do you mean that these do not have enough return spring force and therefore depress too easily with light pressure and so could easily push off accidently and activate/stop/reset the chrono function unintentionally?
4.)Is the 24 increment subdial a 24 hour chronograph tabulator as opposed to an adjustable GMT time subdial or an unadjustable standard 24 hour time indicator correlating with the main center pinion 12 hour hand?
5.)Does the knurled outer bezel rotate like the Breitling Navitimer model this watch follows the styling of? I ask because this watch, unlike the Breitling, uses an extra crown at 10 o'clock to rotate its under crystal side rule(the Breitling's slide rule, though also located under the crystal, rotates with the knurled outer bezel).
6.)What kind of crystal does this Chronospeed model have?
Thank you very much.
I am tempted to buy one of these, any owners have any feedback on them after a few weeks of wear?
regards
Saggs
HI PEOPLE. I HAVE JUST GOT MYSELF A ROTARY "NAVITIMER" FROM ARGOS FOR £54 !! ITS GOT A STEEL BRACELET A BLUE FACE AND IS A REAL CHUNKY BIT OF KIT. FOR THE PRICE I PAID, I CANT FAULT IT. I NEEDED A NEW WATCH AND THIS MORE THAN FITS THE BILL. I AM NEW TO THE SITE SO PLEASE BE GENTLE WITH ME !!!!
:bounce: Have just got one in the Argos sale for £54, gone for the blue faced with a bracelet. Will of course post some pictures and thoughts when I get the chance. Think I have found a suitable watch to wear on holiday and for that price IMHO can't go wrong :)

(hummmmm that sounds a bit gay).
As for the watch, well it is not for me but i can see why people like them and the price seem very good.
Worth noting that there was a pile of these on E-bay recently with cracked crystals.
A friend of mine was chuffed with his for a week, until he put a crack down the middle of the glass.Originally Posted by raysablade
HELLO PEOPLE. HOPE YOU ALL HAD A GOOD CHRISTMAS. I HAVE JUST BEEN READING THE COMMENTS REGARDING THE ROTARY " NAVITIMER". I HAD TO GET A NEW GLASS FACE FOR MINE, AS AFTER CATCHING THE GLASS ON A DOOR HANDLE THE GLASS CRACKED FROM TOP TO BOTTOM ! ! IF I HAD WALLOPED IT HARD AGAINST THE HANDLE I COULD UNDERSTAND IT BUT I CANNOT BELIEVE HOW FRAGILE THE GLASS IN THESE THINGS IS ! ! ARGOS CHARGED ME £35.95 FOR THE REPAIR AND MANAGED TO RETURN THE WATCH IN A WORSE CONDITION THAN WHEN I TOOK IT FOR REPAIR ! ! ON COLLECTION THE BEZEL WAS SCRATCHED TO HELL AND BACK AND THE STRAP LOOKED LIKE IT HAD BEEN RUN OVER BY A LORRY ! ! AFTER I "VOICED MY VIEWS" REGARDING THE STATE OF THE REPAIR, ARGOS WERE GOOD ENOUGH TO REFUND THE COST OF REPAIR AND REPLACE THE WATCH FOR A BRAND NEW ONE. I LEFT A HAPPY CUSTOMER WITH A BRAND NEW WATCH THAT I AM NOW SCARED TO WEAR IN BAD WEATHER, AS I FEAR HAILSTONES WOULD BE ENOUGH TO CRACK THE FACE AGAIN ! ! HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE GLASS CRACKING ON THESE WATCHES ? ?
No - mine's been fine
and please stop shouting (don't use all CAPITAL letters in your posts .........)
That's 40 m better than the original  :DOriginally Posted by sabestian

I bought mine just before Xmas last year and to be honest having worn it to work on a couple of occasions has sat steadfastly in the drawer until the other day when I picked it up and rang 1-2-3 to find it was 6 seconds fast!!!!!!!!!!
Incredible accuracy from a watch costing less than £70. Still not sure about case being stainless steel though, seems like a base metal highly polished. And as for the WP rating that has to be a NO (sorry to shout). Internal bezel crown @ 10 o'clock & the pushers tells me not to trust them for anything other than a shower. However not a bad Breitling Navitimer 'copy' (can I say that) from a well known mainstream high street brand. Just my honest opinion.
Cheers.
Bit of a looker, but makes you wonder how they manage to make it and retail it for that price.
Now reduced..picked one up for £39.99 last weekend...absolute bargain :D
After reading here, my glass also craked through minimal if any touch. returned watch to Rotary and they fixed it FOC. Can't argue. Nice watch to wear but a little too fragile to use as a true beater.
Resurrection thread time (and it's not even Easter).
A simple question to the forum:
Would a Rotary Chronospeed (plenty on eBay for around £40) satisfy my lust for a Breitling Navitimer (let's say £4K) at a time when my watch savings pot is decidedly empty. I guess if I squint or look at it without my glasses the difference would be negligible.
I think if you expect a decent watch for £70 ish, you will be chuffed.
If you expect it to be a Navitimer, you will be disappointed.
