    Best bang for buck Auto

    Hi,
I'm new and i'm thinking of getting my first auto. I was doing some research and it seems that Sinn have good heritage and are great value for money. Would you consider ORIS or RW?

Depends on what you've got already. If you have a collection of Swiss manuals and want to go auto, then I'd go for a watch with an ETA 2824. You can't do much better than the PRS-17A for the price. However, reading "Best bang for buck Auto" at face value, I'd be looking at Seiko, Citizen or Orient. The Seiko Orange and Black Monsters spring to mind as a good place to start.

    Seiko, Oris, Tutima or Precista.

Can't beat a trusty SKX007/09 in the bang for buck category (as many have said before me). For a hundred quid you've nothing to lose.

Been beaten to it - Seiko all the way for Value for Money. Monster, 007/009, and a variety of others. Heritage exceeds many of the Swiss brands, as does their commitment to making each part of the watch themselves. Once you go Japanese you'll never go back

Eddie's PRS3 takes some beating for value - Top Spec for £350 with a proper swiss auto movement

    No, I wouldn't consider either.
It's just a matter of time...

Another vote for Seiko or one of Eddies. A second hand Seamaster Pro is always good value too i think :)

I can recommend Seiko 007 , Monster or Precista Prs 18A got all three in collection all great watches. Seiko models are definately better than the citizen promaster - I had one years ago but the power reserve deminished to only a few hours.

Re: Best bang for buck Auto

As someone mentioned above surely this question needs a budget to be answered?
Several grand then certain Rolex models
Less than a grand could be a used Omega SMP or a new Sinn
For £500 a used Longines Hydroconquest springs to mind (as I just bought one!)
For £300 there are a few of Eddie's Precista range
For £100 we are in Seiko territory
Depends on your budget & what style you are after methinks ... Paul ;)

Re: Best bang for buck Auto

    Quite an open ended question.
You don't state any preference for style, i.e. diver, flieger, gmt etc, or size, bracelet or strap, so to answer your question literally, I think the Speedbird PRS-22 (SB111) offers the most amazing value for money, top build quality, unsurpassed legibility, classic design and to top it all, the best quality bracelet I have so far seen or worn.
Get one now, the rest will follow :)

A serious automatic for a price that spells value and not "cheap" it has to be a Seiko Monster. If your budget is between 3 or 4 thousand, on the other hand a white dial Rolex Milgauss is very very my idea of a mid price beautiful looking watch with zing. Robbie

How about the Certina DS first. I am not very experienced but I am very happy about mine!

You can get a new one for around 300.

no mention of hamilton in this thread, yet all i ever read about them is how incredibly good value for money they are, so i'll put that brand forward. i'm so close to buying a hamilton x-wind at the moment.

Re: Best bang for buck Auto

It really depends what kind of style you're after and what pricerange you have in mind. Brands like Seiko, Citizen, Orient are by many considered to be the best value for money in the lower price range, but if you're looking for a watch with a Swiss movement Hamilton, Sinn, Stowa, Oris, Tissot and possibly Mido spring to mind (amongst others).

    This:

Cost me about $40USD and got me hooked on autos. Since then have spent thou$and$ in only a couple years.

My question is: why do you want to go down this path???

Sometimes a bang for the buck can lead to not youre absolute favorite, and regrets later on.

    < £200 used or perhaps

    < £300 used or perhaps

< £600 new back in the day. variants of the 2000 series make superb everyday watches imho.
they dont seem to have held their value well so available at bargain prices these days.
much nicer than the aquaracer, but then perhaps that is just an age thing.

ok just spotted the word auto in the title, and this particular 2000 is quartz.
however my opinion still holds, also, the autos whilst more expensive initially have held their value somewhat better.
