Stunning timepiece Mike.....love the potted history too. :)
Sweet 17 indeed, but not my years
My new acquisition... directly from the wrist of a career Navy man!
I'm waiting for the promised letter of provenence, history, and photos to come through, but in the meantime I'm just enthralled with the watch... share my enjoyment!!
Full-spec 5517 case no. 5339*** issue no. 8**/78 with full case number inside the case back and the most beautiful 5517 maxi-dial!
The watch is still with its original issued 18mm webbing strap... and there it will stay!!
MW
:D
Stunning timepiece Mike.....love the potted history too. :)
That's it, another [s:1xja6094]day[/s:1xja6094] month ruined by Mike Wood
Incredible piece, once again! That's number...??
When will you stop? When you have all 78 pieces?
I'm not as think as you drunk I am.
Stunning watch!
This looks like a fanatastic condition milsub.
How do you rate it out of your 17?
Does a milsub with a few battle scars get more love than one with 'one careful owner'?
That is, for me, the 8) 8) 8) timepiece going full stop.
Not at all jealous Mike
So Connery was right all along with the undersized strap
Fab watch.
I suppose its ok
Nice piece Mike dial looks super crisp
congrats
ffs man !!!
you dont stop do you? if i got that that would be me done for a few months at least
enjoy it mate :) along with its younger siblings
Platoon!
The new boy's sharing good company..!
Lovely - I have always preferred the sword hands to the stick & ball design.
Lovely watch, and a birth year watch for me as well
you are bonkers... just stunning, all of them!!

gotta get one one day soon.
Mike - thanks for sharing
I look forward to hearing about this one's tour of duty - for a saddo like me it can almost be as fascinating as the piece itself :)
 :)
JUST WOW... I've never seen that particular model... I assume it's 100% original - and what a combination of iconic aspects: hands (including sec's hand!), milspec dial, engravings, OMG... :bounce: :drunken: :bounce:Originally Posted by Mike Wood
Enjoy in great health... though I do wonder what something in that genre runs ($$)??

That looks like a good one :), bit of an outstanding "hat-trick" on the day I understand, well done - again!
Any reason why the issue Nato is 18mm rather than 20mm ?
I ask out of genuine interest and not just because it is the only part of the watch I could afford
Just one would be enough for me ...
Seriously though ..... I'm intrigued as to how such timepieces could be 'service issue' ...
Greg
Government cut backs... the 18mms were marginally cheaper. :DOriginally Posted by Bluetinfloor
My belief is that the MOD had quantities of left-over 18mm straps in Stores, and they were just used up as and when..!
I thought 18mm was standard issue when these were put together mike and that people just changed them to 20mm. One of mine still has it's 18mm and I know you can still get the 18mm straps issued from rolex.
Nice watch.....but you really have to many...you need to branch out ;)
Another cracker, nice thick case 8)

Jesus, I was about to write a Bear Pit post about endlessly quoting pics when we've all seen them at least once, but bloody hell...
With these and the 145.003 Speedmaster in another post... lost-for-words...Originally Posted by Chris_in_the_UK
Fantastic piece! Not being up on military watches, to whom would a piece like this have been issued? Surely this wouldn't have gone to anyone who wanted one. Were the armed forces personnel required to pay for the watches themselves? I'd love to know more about these "issued" pieces. I suspect that the best anyone in the Canadian forces could get right now would be a cheap quartz watch... no Rolexs here!
Cheers,
Jay
Easy to choose which one to wear in the morning, they are all the same :D :D :lol:Originally Posted by Mike Wood

Staggering part of your collection. Three quarters of a million quids worth, bloody hell. Super things though.
Tell us again though about the £58.75p Rolex wanted for an estimate on your "vintage Daytona Cosmograph 6263". I can see you struggling to find that.
Wear the watch ( es ) in good health though.
Show me the money!! Sadly, I see ten watches on straps... and a bank account containing limited funds.Originally Posted by wust588

Mike
is there a reason why you left the crowns undone ? was it simply to stop the seconds hand for the pic?
Dave
Yep, simply to align the hands at 8:20 (best position for milSubs and logo-dial Comexes), and stop ("hack") the seconds hands...Originally Posted by watch-nut

Didn't mean it in that sense Mike - maybe £500k then given a couple are mercedes hands :wink:Originally Posted by Mike Wood

Its all the £58.75s that add up to make the £m's!
Only joking Mike. Keep a hold of all the milsubs mate. Lack of world supply can only but help the price of mine!

on a serious point, why are all the crowns out? don't you worry about dust or moisture getting in?
