Amazing to read that he got away with it.
Airborne!
Very similar to the one Martin Brundle did, Australia think it was.

blimey!!
Really lucky this didn't turn into something worse, Le Mans '55 springs to mind
That really is a rubbish circuit, and I'm amazed that the FIA ever sanctioned it. I watched the World Touring Cars from there yesterday, and in the second race the cars only managed two racing laps due to accidents and subsequent safety car periods.
As for running open-wheel single seaters on that type of circuit, it's complete madness - if tyres come into contact, as was the case in point, the forces unleashed are incalculable, and cars can easily fly over barriers and into spectator enclosures.
Clearly, money talks, and the teams go and race wherever they're told to. The FIA needs to get a grip, and stop pandering to the grasping promoters and compromising driver and spectator safety before a car ends up in the crowd, as happened at Le Mans in 1955 and motor racing is banned.
Dismounts from high horse.

Ian

Here's another - fortunately driver was unhurt, only 2 minor injuries to spectators!

I was at Ingliston in the seventies when Dougie Niven's 5.7l Boss Escort did the same thing. It actually just missed the toilet block, which brings a whole new meaning to scaring the crap out of people. Here's the offending car before it was written off.Originally Posted by mr1973

As already said, i'll bet her soiled his linen
The mini crash looked dreadful- it's amazing how there were no fatalities among the crowd

Ah, Doug Niven. There's a name to conjure with.

I agree with Backward point, this endless list of non-tracks all over the planet has gone way too far. Racing on all sorts of historically important tracks in Europe ended for safety reasons, then we have tracks like Silverstone being massively redeveloped with no stands along the old pit straight presumably for safety reasons yet the FIA sanction racing on joke circuits like this one
Although the quoting has got a bit messed up here, I'd agree with you. I've never forgotten the Super Saloons - the sight of that Escort exiting the hairpin barely under control (normally behind Gerry Marshall or Bill Dryden though), and the smell of Castrol R will stay with me all my life!Originally Posted by Backward point
