HAVE YOU BEEN DRINKING?
I have seen some really lovely watches which have been spoiled by having them bead blasted.
What possesses people to marr their watches in this manner?
I'm just a very naughty boy.

Can you show us an example of a bead blasted piece that has been spoiled please?Originally Posted by luddite
Their taste. Not yours. Their watch. Likewise. I've seen watches that I thought were improved by bead blasting and it can give a new lease of life to a tatty diver beater.
I agree! :POriginally Posted by tom

IIRC, Johnny Marr is (part?) owner of a jeweller's store that sells some very nice watchesOriginally Posted by IANAN

I also dislike bead-blasting. It looks like silver sprayed plastic to me, but I would never admit that in the presence of an audience with such an overwhelming appreciation of it.
Oh damn...
...but what do I know; I don't even like watches!
Interesting! I wondered what he was up to these days.Originally Posted by clockworks

I agree with the OP in as much as there are times when bead blasting has a detrimental effect.
A prime example is a Bead blasted PRS-14 thats doing the rounds at the moment, man what a catastrophy that is
Drugs must have played a part in that one :blackeye: , and it must be worse up close, because as soon as the thing is bought, it's sold again within days.

to carry on in the same vein
the trucks dont work
To me bead blasting is akin to giving a Gainsborough a coat of emulsion.
Or a slag tag on a good looking woman.
Does any manufacturer supply watches bead blasted?
E&OE :D

Titanium is often bead blasted and looks none the worse for it IMHO
I can think of plenty of watches that look good beadblasted. The Dreadnought, fo example
of course beadblasting can also be used to cover up marks / blemishes. Like scratches from strap changes ;)
The Anonimo professionale GMT I recently owned had a sand blasted finish and it looked amazing. From what I understand it's quite an expensive finish although I'm not totally sure what the attributes are?
Does it hurt much? :DOriginally Posted by Seb d

I actually like the beadblasted '14. The polished PRS-2 was a travesty which has thankfully been corrected!

Wonder if Bry1975 is reading this and would like to comment?
Bry is too busy to comment as he's bead blasting a watch to perfection
Shiny is ok if you aspire to be 'bling' I suppose.
I think a light bead blasting improves the looks of a Seiko "Monster".
