Now that is one phenomenal Breitling nice catch and i love the dial layout.
Picked this beauty up off of Ebay at the weekend for a real bargain, been after a birth year Breitling for a while, and as it's my Birthday a week on Sunday, what better way to celebrate!
It's a 1969 Navitimer Chronomatic Cal. 12 1806 in a big boy 49mm case!
Needs a new crystal and a good overhaul but the movement is actually keeping bloody good time and the chrono functions work (occasionally sticky) well and return back to 12 dead straight.
Dial is in great condition but the inner bezel silver has a couple of scratches in it, not very noticeable, but the black paint on the outer bezel in unmarked!

very nice indeed, good birthday watch, can you not polish the crystal? (it is acrylic isnt it?),
cheers

'appy birfday!
Nice Watch!
It is acrylic Mike, how do you polish it (excuse the daft question!)Originally Posted by seadog1408

i use polywatch stefan, but you can use most cutting compounds (eddie does polywatch) just mask off the rest of the watch front and use the polywatch with cotton wool balls, work it over the crystal and the scratches will disappear,
cheers
mike
here we go stefan, just like this
this one came up lovely
Thanks just did a quick google too, some people have used Autosol which I have, worth a gentle shot? It'll need replacing at some point anyway as it's chipped on the edges.Originally Posted by seadog1408

Congrats, Brasso will also work a treat on that crystal :D

Me too! Happy birthday mate.Originally Posted by Stefan Tapp
After a little work that will come up beautifully.
stefan, i have never used autosol, but i guess if its a cutting compound it will be fine.
cheers

CONGRATS!!! NICE dial!!!!! :)
Bests,
Krit
Thanks guys!
Just used a little Autosol and this is the result!
Thanks for the Birthday wishes too, falling on Fathers Day this year so double prizes!
Stef
looks so much better stefan, that vertical mark on the right of the centre stem, if its not a crack, and just a deepish scratch with a bit more isolated work it should come out.
mike
Cool watch,
same movement as the Heurs' of the same year (cal 11,12)
"World's first automatic chronograph" was the boast.

Enjoy it, Important piece, Colin.
Thanks Mike. It is just a scratch I think and I will spend a bit more time on it, need to find some masking tape that actually sticks to the bezel to protect it, stuff I've got is bloody useless!!Originally Posted by seadog1408

Congrats, not something you see every day so a really nice addition no doubt
what a lovely watch. Congratulations. Persevere with the crystal its worth it. I thought I was going to need a new crystal for my vintage breitling but spent about an hour on this one, and results were excellent.
Just as an update, I've used some insulation tape and masked it up and that scratch is practically gone, in the right light now it is only just visible so I'm over the moon with it now and potentially it's saved me a few hundred pounds on a replacement plexiglass (if of course they still carry spare ones!).
:D :D
Stef
well done stefan, that looks fantastic 8)
T-Cut works wonders also!Originally Posted by boddah

Would have worn mine today but it's a link too short in the bracelet and would be uncomfortable to wear for a day. I must try and track a link down!
I think I may pop it on a genuine Breitling black calf deployant strap this weekend.
Stef
Nice watch, happy birthday, how big do these wear?
Quite big Andy, but at the same time, they are fairly light and low profile so they don't 'feel' big if you know what I mean?Originally Posted by Andy Schuhren

i agree, they wear well, not massive like a brietling bentley or super avenger

Your watch has a lovely shine to the 'glass' have you done anything to it, and have you ever had it fully overhauled, it's amazing condition!
Stef
Great result Stef and a wonderful watch, congratulations :thumbright:. Many happy returns for your upcoming birthday too.
If you run out of autosol toothpaste works well too and, as a bonus, your watch will smell good. Minty fresh you could say. OK I'll get me coat
Cheers,
Gary
i have done nothing to it apart from a little poly watch on the glass/plastic,its not bad considering it 's a 69 like yours, i think?,also on the original breitling bracelet
Mmm, your dial is quite different to mine, you have battons and a newer style Breitling symbol.Originally Posted by peter2704
Does it have the serial number visible on the back?
If so you can check it against the dates on this link http://www.watchestobuy.com/BreitlingSerial.htm
Stef
LOVE it what a beauty!!
Stef,
thats handy, will check my watch serial tonight when home from work,i hope i can see the numbers on the back of the watch or is the serial number inside?
That is a lovely watch, congratulations, all it needs is a polish
For that particular age/model it should be on the back under the 1806 on the provision it hasn't been polished away of course!Originally Posted by peter2704

Stef,
i think mines a 69,info on the back is DDEBR 1806 or 8? 11525/67 , 1322248
Certainly is, my serial is 1324130.Originally Posted by peter2704

What a great looking Breitling
Congratulations and happy birthday for the 20th My 30 th is the day before, hopefully Ill have something to show you by then!!
Some of you guys may remember my post back in June about this one and that I was sending it way for an overhaul?
Well here it is in all it's vintage glory!
Remember, this is what it was like..........................
The overhaul cost £1169.62 in total, but in my mind worth every penny!
Stef
It looks fantastic ....but what did they do to it, dial and handset seem the same, £1169.62 sounds like a lot of money for an overhaul?Originally Posted by Stefan Tapp
What a great result! I was pretty unimpressed when I first saw it and now I'm jealous.
The price included a new plexiglass, new crown and pushers, new outer bezel and I'm sure the hands have been replaced, they normally are.
The outer bezel was about £450 (the old one had no resistance), crown and pushers about £85, plexi was £19 and again about £450 for a full strip down and overhaul of the movement (all prices plus vat).
Just popped it on to this which I prefer......................
Stef
Thanks for the breakdown. Stef, It looks the dogs...wear and enjoy, it will last another 40+ years until it's next spa... :D
