I would prefer original rolex cyclops...
I have a friend who wants to buy a sub and eventhough i have recommended to buy the no date ..he still prefers the date with cyclops ....
what would you buy and for what reasons?what are the advantages and disadvantages of each model and which one will hold better its price..

I would prefer original rolex cyclops...
No date for me, but I'm probably in the minority there. Much cleaner looking.
I prefer no cyclops personally... however it's really not up to us!
Non date COSC if I had to choose but both are great.
non-date for the aesthetics, every time
Go for a Sea Dweller, date and the clean look without the cyclops!
Best of both worlds!
No date version for me as well.
No date with cyclops :D
Is this supposed to be trick question of the day?Originally Posted by ioann12

For me, if it's a Sub with an acrylic crystal, then no date. Sapphire crystal, then with date. The ND Sub always looks a bit empty to me, although the 5513 and predecessors don't. No idea why, and of course it's entirely subjective.
Bit cheeky to tell your friend he's buying the wrong watch, though
I would go ND !
But then it's not my money so it's your mates choice really !
For me it has to be a date. I simply hate not having the date on a watch. You may not need it that often but when you do i like the ease of having it there and i like how it looks as well. However there is something to be said for the 5513 and earlier they do have some real charm about them maybe because bond had a non date :thumbleft:
George
i have a few of both, so i guess the real answer is your friend should get whichever HE wants
cheers

No date 8)
"I looked with pity not untinged with scorn upon these trivial-minded passers-by"
There is more than just the date in difference though isn't there? Does your friend know this and what they are (i.e. bracelet links etc)?
If so does He even care?
For me it has to be a date as I need a date :)
+1 on the SD though if a date is needed but the cyclops isn't desired (providing you have 20/20 vision or your "readers" on!)
I prefer the sub as I dislike watches that show the date. This is because I change watches so much it is a right pain to keep changing it to the correct day. I find the sub more balanced with lume at 3 0'clock and I think it flies under the radar a bit as well. However i can see the attraction of the sub-date if it was your only watch and in continuous use.
But I really hate the term "No date Sub" :? :( Please its "sub" and "Sub-date" everybody!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
pedantically yours
tim
I've had both and I would say a pre COSC 14060M.
+1 There is the right answer :)Originally Posted by seadog1408

I am a no date man.
sub date for me
andy
Cyclops, FTW.
I would go for the date, the day i want a rolex without date i will go for the seadweller!
Edit....mean when i want a Rolex without the "bubble"...sorry there :|
With date, cyclops removed
5512 Gilt 4 lines for me. For your friend, Sub Date.
Is that arriving in time for this Friday's thread then Chris...? :DOriginally Posted by uwtc

I've been really undecided over which one to go for next as well. I really like the clean looking 14060m (non COSC) in that it's heritage from the classic non-date subs is evident but don't like the idea of the hollow end links (I just hate that rattle). Or I go for a Sub-date and have the cyclops removed (I can't afford a SD) and get the SEL bracelet.
Or, I get the 14060m and put my (SEL) EXPII bracelet on it....................
........... or just get an Explorer I.
I need more disposable income. :(
Thank you guys for the replies
I agree the SD woudl be the best choice for me but HE decides....he doesnt mind not having the date ..anyway His choice..which model has a better sale price afterwards?????
AND a general question the vintage rolex sub models sizewise are they bigger vs the modern ones ..what is the best sit eto learn the differences of models etc

I think it depends what watch it it, on a rolex i like a date

Absolutely...Definately...Without Hesitation...
NO CYCLOPS...
so either get a ND
or save up and get a Seadweller... :thumbleft:
No date, non-COSC.
Tried the SD, it sat very high on my wrist.
Anyway just an opinion..
No date for me (if I could ever afford one!). I'm not a massive fan of the cyclops but wouldnt say no if I was given one!

It's just a matter of time...
When we were looking for the Sub for my son all of the ADs suggested the Sub Date over the Sub, purely from a resale point of view.
Much better bracelet too (imo) without the rattly endlinks or the diver's extension that keeps dropping out.
However, I can understand the aspect about the clean dial.
I have tried to buy one twice and each time said no!! Instead bought a GMT II classic which seemed much better value as it includes the extra complication and the more robust bracelet.
Not having the date is tricky. I am currently rotating through my G10 collection with no date and as a teacher the pupils are always asking what the date is. I have to get round this by putting the date on the board at the start of the day. So for me a date is pretty much essential!
I think the compromise is to get the SD, a much less common watch with more attitude!

no date....but its his choice

Had (a few 0f) both - very different to me but liked them both.
Settled on SD for now and I doubt very much I will own the newer case style sub (ever).
When you look long into an abyss, the abyss looks long into you.........
I prefer the ND, but ended up with a Sub date because the bracelet fits a small wrist better.
The ND bracelet is slightly longer on the 6 side, causing the clasp to sit too far around my 6.75" wrist. The Sub date I now own fits fine, even though the difference is only around 4mm. It's the link which joins the clasp that's different....not alot of people know that :)
The ideal for me would be a ND on a Date bracelet.

A) The Sub Date has a better sale price afterwards, but it also has a higher entry price.Originally Posted by ioann12

no date all the way :)
Bests,
Krit
Without date is what I have, has cleaner looks IMHO.
I have a Sea-Dweller, so date but no cyclops.
