Dating an Omega off its seriel/watch number?

Hi

Just purchased a used Omega Seamaster Mid size Automatic

Didnt come with any paperwork and previous owner was unable to give me any idea of when it was originally purchased as he was also not the original owner.

I am trying to work out how old it is and also not sure on its model number.

The watch number is 80032**4

I have included pics to see if anyone knows what model number it is.

Would appreciate any help you guys can give.

I've had the same problem trying to date some more modern Omega dive watches - annoying!

You buy a pre owned Rolex, one call to rolex and they tell you age, model, whether or not its been stolen etc

so why the hell cant Omega offer the same kind of service????!!!!!
or do they and i dont know about it? if anyone knows please let me know

I believe they used to advise when the chronometer test was carried out - this was a free service - possibly charged for now like most of their old free services - I haven't asked actually and had forgotten they used to do it - if the watch is not a chronometer I'm not sure they would release the information.

It doesn't help with selling a watch if the customers know it is already a couple of years old - but with some Omega watches that is exactly what they are - especially when you see the amount of 2006/2007 non engraved SMP's that have been up for sale used over the years.

Sorry - laser etching rather than engraving on the case back - world symbol with omega logo combined.
