Some of the Longines retro/re-editions are nice - and around the right price.
Having sold off most of the collection recently to deal with a personal matter I have now found myself with a (small) fund to play with.
So, I am looking for a simple, plain looking, black faced watch no larger than 40mm to complement my IWC Mark XV spitfire (the silver dialled version). Much as I would love to get a black Mark XV too I can't stretch to that sort of money so I'm looking for a good quality alternative for around £800 - 1000. I am already considering a Sinn 656 but wondered what else was out there.
Thanks
Dave

Damasko DA29? A different type of pilot's watch.
Got to say I support the Speedie iii as a bang for buck option.
At the other end of the price range, have you considered the Longines www. A reissue (sort of) of the Greenlander. Very nice if you can get on with the position of the date!
I have to agree with the recommendation of the Speedbird III. I had the II and selling it remains among my dumbest decisions. The Speedbird series are just handsome, handsome watches.
Something by Stowa or one of the Fortis Pilot pro or Fleiger heres my B42 picked up from SC they do a 40mm version as well.
They don't come much plainer or blacker than the PRS-1
If you can find someone willing to part with theirs
Best Regards - Peter
I'd hate to be with you when you're on your own.
+1 SPB III is the way forward. Also you get a good, loyal audience to resell too, when you're bored with it!Originally Posted by MMC

Stowa Marine Original Black, or Flieger. Alternative could be Tourby, plenty of choice there. It's all about the German watches (and Time Factors), proper value. Good luck!
SBIII
Anybody mentioned yet the Speedbird III? :bounce:
An excellent choice, valued by myself in the same league with much, much more expensive watches.
+1 on the Sinn 656
How about a Polaris homage...?
+1 for Sinn
Recommend me a plain, black watch....simple, plain looking, black faced watch no larger than 40mm......
Well I've never been one to succomb to peer pressure so I have ignored you all and bought a Speedbird III on the Sales Corner. I can't believe nobody suggested it :)
Thanks everyone for the suggestions
