Colour the first two lines, then highlight them and drag down as far as you need, as if copying a formula. That should do it.Originally Posted by Glamdring
I use Excel for making lists. It's so much overkill for this task but it's what I have.
Is there a way to make every alternate line a different shade of the same colour automatically? Thus I define a block of say 60 lines by 6 columns. Do I have to mark every other line manually or is there a magic button that will do it?

Oh, quick. Tried it. It works! Thanks a lot. 8)
tried it as well, got a blue screen, could it have been because of this;
format C: /fs:ntfs
That might just about give you a blue screen... :P
For even fancier lists, under the "format" menu you'll find "conditional formatting" which will let you set different fonts, backgrounds, etc based on the values in a nominated cell or range of cells. Works well with lists when you want things to be highlighted automatically or want to add different highlights to different things in your list / table. Good for customising lists / tables based on all manner of variables.

Also look at Format-Autoformat works well with pivot tables.
