This thread is hilarious. So far we have seen some of the ugliest watches ever made!
DSSD is a tool, a watch of its time, but CERTAINLY ugly! A similar ugliness to -say- any Panerai.
I do actually love the DSSDs and what they represent in terms technological advance and the quality and the history. But 'beauty'??
NO WAY!
There are plenty of good looking watches.
I would say one of the most aestetically pleasing to my eyes is the IWC portuguese series (favouring the 7 days power reserve which enables to admire its underpinnings).

May I suggest that the DSSD is edged out of the beauty stakes...
Sorry- but the gold watch above looks like something you'd buy on special offer at the local Sunday Market....
I don't mind the DSSD at all and that bracelet stuff is really a crock when you wear one but most of the alternative beauties (not including the IWC) are pretty rank looking.
Cheers,
Neil.
You remind me of the people on the IMDB message boards who say that 'Casablanca is boring' or 'Blade Runner is over-rated' or 'The Blues Brothers is just soooooo not funny' then go on to say that 'Batman - The Dark Knight is the best film ever made'.Originally Posted by farmkid
Some of those Zenith Elite watches look great, I'm not sure about the one above..........
I wouldn't mind holding a Voutilainen on my wrist..
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so I take it you need a white cane to get around town!
I wouldn't even call it a classic - SD - Yes, DSSD - No
That said, I'm glad you're pleased with your new piece - wear it well
When it comes to "Beauty" I prefer the more feminine type of Pretty/Beauty, if that makes sense... :?
Some past loves.

I quite like the look of the DSSD, and I don't see the problem with the bracelet, but I don't think I'd ever call it beautiful.
The Lange posted by CommanderJameson, on the other hand, makes my heart beat faster; for me, it's the horological equivalent of Cindy Crawford modelling lingerie...
Chacun a son gout, and all that.

I love the 3536 but it falls short for me in a couple of elements;Originally Posted by Sunnie
- The bracelet har too long links (making sizing a hit-or-miss, lacks a diver's extension and is integrated)
- The design is too high and straight - it wears large and chunky, and is a cuff killer
- Last but not least, it's too bad that only the Ti comes with the painted dial
Still, it's one stunning watch...

Beauty is often in the little details imho 8)
TBF theres a 1.5 link so it will fit anybody unless your ultra fussy doesnt need the extension as theres a velcro dive strap, thats safer then any nato :DOriginally Posted by Singular
for a 2000m DR it sits low IMHO cant think of a slimmer one
paited dial just a taste thing
Can't believe that we don't have a Portuguese yet. So here we go
Yep. The most beautiful watch, ever made.
Game over. 8)
Close, but no cigar - the '12' and the '6' look butchered! :wink:Originally Posted by Slartibartfast

I think it is beautiful, it is the only rolex I would consider buying at the moment, lovely pictures too, isn't it about time you flipped it my way

If you are talking about that Patek with the hideous crown guards and horribly misproportioned dauphine hands, then for the nth time it has to be said that beauty is in the rheumy, myopic eye of beholder.Originally Posted by uwtc

On the topic of beauty and whether or not it has any quantifiable or objective qualities, this video popped up on my msn homepage this week. Worth watching, even if just for the Speedy Cal. 1045 action! :D

Not for me, I like a good looking face............
Is that Wilko's? :D

Not sure that there can ever be a true concensus on this topic, but I'm firmly in the IWC Portuguese camp ;) .
I know people complain about the 12 & 6 being cut in half, but I don't ever notice that when I wear mine, and it a truly special and stunning looking watch 8) . Divers have their place, but you can't beat a good dress watch if beauty is what you are looking for...

Nice, but not beautiful
